The Park, Sunday Morning

Billy had tried meditating today to try to 'keep calm and carry on', but that had not worked. The feeling of helplessness had demanded he at least do something active, so instead, he was doing katas by the pond. He'd started with the most basic, and as he finished each one, he started a more complicated one. It was helping.

Leda was brooding over everything she had learned last night. Unable to sleep any more, she had decided to go for a walk to clear her head. Her feet took her to the park after a quick stop at JGoB.

Billy didn't recognize the girl, but he recognized battle scars when he saw them, and gave her a nod as she passed by.

Leda for her part thought the boy looked vaguely familiar. Perhaps she'd seen him around...Oh.

It hit her then that she had 'met' him before. Or a version of him. She reminded herself that he was out in the sunlight.

"Morning."

Without missing a beat in his kata, Billy nodded again. "Morning it is. You a student?"

"Nah, graduated last year. You?"

"Oh I'm old." he said, reaching the end of his kata. He strolled over to a nearby bench. "Would have graduated college this spring."

"Would have?" Leda asked, following him to the bench. It was weird talking to someone who had a Vampiric double in another world who'd tried to kill a double of herself.

Billy sighed. "Yeah. My school doesn't exist anymore."

"And lemme guess, as far as anyone else in your world is concerned, it never did."

"That's the one." he nodded. "Hell my insistence that there used to be a continent called Asia was enough to get them thinking I'd lost it. If any of them are still around, they probably think I'm locked up in a mental ward."

"When did you get here?" she asked, wondering if he'd escaped from such a place to get here.

"Few days. The minute I got here I tried to go back. No good. And every number I called I got a 'not in service' message. That's how I knew my school was gone. Today, no reception whatsoever."

"So fast." Leda gulped. She rose with trembling determination. "I have to go."

Billy rose as well, suddenly worried. "Woah hey, uh, look I don't know your name, but where are you going?"

"I can't stay here." Leda told him. "I came back to see if anyone here could help, and instead I found out that the worst is likely to happen. I have to go back. I have a responsibility to my people. To be there with them at the end if that's what it comes to."

"That's very noble." Billy said. "But if your world gets wiped out this way then maybe you have a responsibility to your people to stay alive and remember them. Make sure that whoever, or whatever remains after all this is over, knows that your world once existed."
