Hel-lo. Another (attractive) face she didn't know. Which Bo supposed was the point of this thing; nothing like going to the bar you don't work at to meet your neighbors.

"Well, that answers question number one: girl Alex or boy Alex," she said with a grin.

Alex laughed. "That was my first question, too," she said. "Bo's an ambiguous name. I felt like we should be talking about our exes, Chris and Terry."

Brunettes in leather or whatever she was wearing no modding honest. It was like catnip. She was going to behave, honest.

Please, like she's ever been seen in anything else when not sleeping?

Bo snickered. "I don't think I've ever dated anybody long enough to have an ex, but I'm pretty sure there were some Chrises and Terrys of both genders in there at some point." That was a lie, but only a small one: the one person she'd dated long enough to count wasn't someone she'd ever think of as an ex.

Alex had to reflect on that one. "I don't remember any Chrises or Terrys being exes," she said. "My most recent exes were Jethro and Olivia, and I don't think either of those qualify. Before that ... Trevor?"

"Nothing ambiguous about those." Or about the fact that the gender preference wires hadn't got crossed in this particular matchup. Score. "Jethro, really? That's even more down-home than some of the boys I grew up with."

"I know. It's so weird dating a Jethro," she said, shaking her head. "He was an ex-Marine, Olivia was a cop, and Trevor was a defense attorney. I'm starting to think I have a type."

'Starting to'?

"So what is it you do in town?" she asked, trying to act like that was a perfectly innocent segue.

Just like she hadn't mentioned 'Olivia' so as to be sure Bo knew she liked girls. Honest.

"I bartend at the other bar...and I work security for the school." Way to help with the typecasting, Bo. "I'm getting the feeling you're either in law enforcement, or you watch way too much TruTV, which is the second stupidest network namechange ever, by the way."

The first one being SyFy went without saying.

Okay, so Alex was doomed. That was good to know. She just wanted to be sure, that was all.

"It's both," she laughed. "I was an ADA, back in New York. I watch Court TV and yell things the football players do when they ESPN games."

She refused to use the new channel name. Refused.

"I haven't been doing security long enough to yell at security guards on tv," Bo replied with a grin. "But don't get me started on bar sitcoms."

"I'm only familiar with this side of the bar, and they're pretty bad," Alex said. What? She was a lawyer. Lawyers drank. So maybe she was excusing her life decisions with stereotypes. It worked fine for her.

"What got you into security?" she asked.

It was a better question than asking if she was allowed to carry handcuffs.

"Wrong place at the right time," said Bo, who was in no way considering how she could manage to bring up The Issue and make a semi-inappropriate comment about handcuffs and answer the question, all before the buzzer went off. Ergh; why had this seemed doable, again?

"I'm kind of a freak who's not safe for humans to date, but it comes in handy for taking down kids who turn into vampires when the island goes weird." Two out of three ain't bad?

Alex suddenly got very interested in her drink, so that it might be slightly less obvious that she hadn't been fully intent on trying to pick up Bo all of five seconds ago.

Okay, fuck that, games were stupid, and so was pride. More importantly, that had to be heartbreaking on Bo's end, to have some kind of condition like that.

"Not safe how?" Alex asked. "I'm ... not going to lie, I was -- and am! -- interested, but if that's just ... not possible, then I'd still like to get to know you. I could use some more friends around here."

But they were out of time. So she stood up, offering her hand. "Can we talk, afterwards?"

" I'd like that," Bo answered, taking it. "I could use more friends myself." It would help, in situations like this, if the flirting weren't genetically encoded. "If they happen to be hot blondes, I'm gonna say that falls under perk, not problem."
