For the greasers. And beauty school drop outs.

Cassel would have fit in better with a dance set in the 30's or 40's, but he slicked back his hair some and wore his typical black clothes and thought maybe he could pass for a greaser or an early beatnik or something.

Naturally he picked a shadowy corner to hang out in because, while he did dance, he wasn't really in the mood at the moment. Instead he'd be creepy and people watch. Mostly he was judging people on their outfits.

It wasn't long before Toby found himself retreating to the shadowy corner, hoping a bit of distance between himself and the majority of the people at the dance would make a difference in what he was picking up.

In the meantime, though, he'd just be standing against the wall with an unfocused, distracted look on his face.

At some point, Kate slid in to take up a piece of wall next to him.

"You're not trying to fall asleep standing up are you?" See her (try to) be sociable.

Toby gave a startled twitch as Kate's voice broke though the haze of the room's collective stream-of-consciousness. "You caught me," he said affecting a sheepish look. "Thought I'd get some good napping time in."

"There are better ways," Kate advised him with a smirk, as she folded her arms. "If I was a meaner person, I'd have walked up and given you a poke to see if you'd fall over."

"Then I'll count myself lucky that you're too kind to do such a thing," Toby grinned at her.

"I have some morals," she assured him with a dry sort of snicker. That fact was very lucky for everyone, really. Trained killers without morals didn't go down well as a general rule.

"You're not going to get out there and jive, or... sock hop, or whatever they're doing?" Don't worry Toby, Kate had no plans to do any of that either.

"That would only end in tears," Toby replied. "...Probably mine. And whoever's feet I stepped on."

"Are you expecting him or her to punch you for being a klutz?" she wondered, a little amusement curling her lips. That was about the only way she could imagine tears from the stomper rather than the stompee.

"I wouldn't rule it out," Toby admitted. "But maybe I'd just be so tragically embarassed by my- literal- misstep." Okay, not embarassed enough to cry. But there'd probably be blushing and some awkward apologies, at the very least.

"Is this a prediction, or is there past dance-related trauma?" she wondered, glancing across at him.

"Prediction," Toby replied. "I don't generally do the whole... dance thing, but I figured since I can swing the dress code for this one," or a reasonable approximation at least, in an ill-fitting white t-shirt and jeans, "I guess I should give it a try?" Even if he wasn't actually planning on dancing. At the dance.

"You're half-way already." With the dressing for the occasion and everything. "You might as well. Stick with the theme and all." Why not! What could possibly go wrong? ... That they hadn't discussed already.

"You can see I really went with the dress code too," she said, gesturing vaguely with one hand at her non-costume of jeans and a jacket. She was kidding.

"Those giant skirts with dogs on them held no appeal?" Toby teased.

No, none at all. "Can you really picture me in a poodle covered skirt?" Really?
