Karla...wasn't comfortable with their new location. So many buildings, squished together, too much asphalt over the ground, too much steel and concrete and glass and plastic. Even in New York, she had been able to feel the land calling to her; Central Park's miles of greenery had helped ease the ache of being trapped in the middle of an artificial landscape.
Today, she was settling back into her routine after having been away from the shop for a few weeks: cleaning the store, doing an inventory of stock, eying a few items for later purchase...
And mostly trying to ignore the island across the Causeway.
