The Boards -- Thursday Evening [Snow White -- Opening Night]

Dec 16, 2010 09:52

Genesis smirked slightly as he glanced around at the controlled chaos that was preparation for the opening night of Snow White. It was too bad that Angeal could not have come--he'd have had commentary on the story at the least, if not how it was being done ( Read more... )

Where Genesis may deign to grace you with his presence, but other NPC people are there to help you if he's not.

Considering how nervous he was for the dress rehearsal, Alexander seemed to be quite calm as he got things ready to go back stage for the performance. Tonight was the opening night, after all, and he did...particularly well during the moment of things. It sort of went with growing up knowing that one screw up meant, you know, death and everything...

"I'm here, I'm here!" Ariel, tinsel in her hair, rushed backstage a bit later than was probably desired, but, according to her previous track record, the fact that she'd showed up at all without forgetting about the performance was an improvement.

Besides, she wasn't even on until later, right, so it was all okay!

Kūkaku and the twins (no...the other ones) were in heavy work mode preparing the pyrotechnics for the show, and since heavy work mode meant making sure no one's faces or, God forbid, limbs got blown to smithereens, they were probably best left undisturbed, unless it was really important.

Ben hadn't missed a performance of Karla's yet and wasn't planning to start now. So there he was, in what had become his usual seat, waiting for the play to start.

Dinah had gotten through her own rehearsal before catching a portal from New Gotham for the performance, so was still wired and a little bouncy out in the audience.

It was great to be back, but a little wistful-making that she wasn't up on *this* stage.

Angua wasn't sure if she actually wanted to go to the performance today, but it was something Cultural, and she'd feel bad passing up a chance to do something Cultural when she knew she could go, so there she was, sitting in a seat and hoping Carrot appreciated his influence on her even all the way over here.

This play was nothing, nothing like Lord Shakespeare's plays put on by Geoffrey. On the other hand, Karla had never gotten to leap down off the stage and be chased around the audience during one of Geoffrey's plays, either. Or pretend to impale herself on someone's sword.

Or have a long and drawn-out death scene complete with moans and groans of utter agony. She convulsed three times, then staggered to the right, gripping the side of the stage like it was the only thing keeping her upright. Then she pushed herself away and reeled to the left a few paces before falling to the floor--she'd watched Jack walking around backstage for several rehearsals to get the stagger down perfectly. On the ground, she began to drag herself along for a few moments before flipping over on her back and convulsing again, flopping around, before finally falling still.

She paused long enough for Christian to get out a few words and then convulsed again. A few more words and then--
"I'm not done yet!" she yelled, lurching up to her feet. Even more ( ... )

Rinoa was sure that she wasn't nervous -- until she had to go out on stage. Suddenly, walking out in her rags felt forced. Her throat was tight, and everyone was staring at her.

She took a breath to steady herself and tried to find Snow White, not Rinoa, as she set down the bucket and grumbled.

"Scrub, scrub, scrub, that's all I ever do."

It sounded hollow to her own ears. She ignored that and pushed on. It'd feel natural soon enough. She hoped.

Clearly, Jack's body language portrayed, the play had suffered horribly in the seven scenes before his presence was there to brighten their evenings. His lines were, if not precisely what was on the page, close enough for his co-stars to figure out what the hell he was talking about.

He was having a marvelous time.

No longer breathless from her dying exertions, though still grinning, Karla found Genesis, notebook and pen in hand. "My notes, sir?" she asked, trying to look serious even in the face of exhilaration.

Genesis looked... like he always looked. Vaguely broody and displeased.

And yet, he sounded amused. "Had fun dying, did you?"

"It's a really long and drawn out scene," Karla said, spirits dimming a bit in the wake of the broody and displeased. "If I wasn't having fun with it, I don't think the audience would, either."
