Imperial Junke Yard - Sunday Late Morning

Oct 04, 2010 11:47

Even at full speed, Kyle couldn't keep up, but he didn't need to. He knew where Marcus would go and that Derek would be at a disadvantage once they ere there. He barreled through the park, dodging flamingos, and skidding around the corner to the junk yard entrance.

"Stop!" he yelled at both of them.

Marcus had a problem. In fact he had a bunch of them, all contained in the guy coming after him. He wasn't someone Marcus would normally choose to tangle with, given the look of him, but choice wasn't getting a look in since he'd been spotted.

The biggest problem was that he was pretty damn sure this was Kyle's brother, and he was also pretty damn sure that Kyle's brother wasn't someone he could just shoot.

He'd hit the junkyard at a dead run, cursing himself that he'd cleaned the place up, because there was nothing much left in the way of good cover. All he could do was draw his gun, but Kyle's shouted command kept it at his side as he whirled to face them both, hyper alert and ready to move and move fast.

Kyle could take his command and stuff it though Derek didn't fire. Yet. He covered Marcus, wishing that he'd been able to carry heavy weaponry today. Not that much would help against metal.

His eyes darted around the junkyard, trying to figure out what weapons were present and where the best cover was. And Kyle behind him. He need to protect Kyle even if he was an idiot.

"Both of you put your guns down," Kyle ordered, knowing it was unlikely that they would listen. "No one here's an immediate threat."

Marcus very much doubted that was going to work but it was instinct not thought that made him move, gun half raised as he started towards the dubious cover of the shed, never taking his eyes off Kyle's brother.

"Never true, Kyle," Derek growled, his entire attention focused on the thing in front of him.

The movement made it an immediate threat, and Derek squeezed the trigger, aiming for the metal's chest.

This time Kyle didn't hesitate. He slammed into Derek, trying to throw his aim off because he knew he couldn't stop him from firing.

Marcus threw himself sideways at the same time Kyle hit Derek and the bullet ripped through his upper arm, missing the bone but not by much. Blood was already running down his arm, but that and the pain didn't matter; cover mattered. Moving fast, he shoved his back against the wall of the shed, right where he knew the fridge was, because wooden walls did SFA against bullets. Out of sight, at least for the moment, he was ready to shoot, hell, he wanted to shoot the bastard, rising tide of anger washing away the faint damn he'd given that the man was Kyle's brother.

"Goddammit, Kyle," Derek growled, jamming his elbow back towards his brother's face, trying to get him to fucking let go. "What the hell are you doing?"

He yanked himself free and paced towards that shed, completely ready for that next flicker of movement that would give him another target.

Derek's elbow caught him in the jaw and he was stunned for a second, but knew he couldn't let Derek close the distance. "Connor knows he's here!"

Derek froze, wanting to keep going after the thing in the shed but just barely restrained by Kyle's words. "Connor's fine with there being metal on this island," he replied, gun still at the ready.

Kyle scrambled to his feet, hands out in front of him to try to calm Derek down. He kept his voice low. "Yes. He's from earlier in his timeline. He didn't know anything about Judgment Day or me when he got here. I reported it to Connor, he told me to keep an eye on him. He's not my Marcus, but he's Marcus. He doesn't know anything."

He was almost shaking as he forced himself to lower the gun. If it came to it, Marcus saved Connor, and -

"You better check out your friend in there then," Derek said, his voice cold. "I hit him."

He watched carefully as Derek lowered the gun but not his guard. "I'll explain everything," Kyle offered, but knew instantly that he'd done wrong by keeping this from Derek. His intentions had been good, but the reasons were wrong. "Marcus!" Kyle called, not game to go in there. "You can come out!"

Marcus had been listening. He hesitated, but when it came right down to it he trusted Kyle to read the situation and be straight with him. And he wanted to know what the hell 'metal' meant. "You going to shoot me again?" he asked Derek as he stepped out, blood dripping slowly off the fingers of his left hand, gun held in his right, pointed at the ground.

"Not unless I have to," Derek said, his eyes narrowed as he watched the metal emerge and fought every instinct screaming at him to ignore Kyle's assurance and take it out or die trying.

Kyle waited as the other two postured and sized each other up. When he was convinced that neither of them was going to shoot, he took a cautious step forward. "Derek, this is Marcus. Marcus, my brother Derek." Then his voice lowered, not in volume but in tone. "I asked you to lay low. You said you would lay low."
