Oh, yeah. Gunn was patrolling and being extra cautious as a result. Oh, sure, radio made it sound like a happy family reunion for most people but Gunn was definitely not taking the whole thing lightly

Wesley was in a pretty good mood after totally surpassing his own expectations in his marksmanship class, so he was all but whistling a jaunty tune as he strolled into the graveyard that evening for his second-ever Fandom patrol.

Then, of course, he saw Gunn. "Wonderful," he muttered.

"You again?" Gunn growled as he saw Wesley. "Shouldn't you be off someplace talking about your queen or something?"

Irritated, Wes retorted, "I thought we'd agreed there would be no insulting of my heritage." Because the English jokes were getting old, and he could just as easily ask Gunn the street thug if he oughtn't be out terrorizing little kids.

Um, yeah, Wes, if you want to get beat up, go right ahead.

"Discussing politics and the royal family is insulting?" Gunn said sarcastically. "Oh. My bad. Still, what the hell are you doing here? Should you be off watching something?"

"Apparently, I'm watching you do a poor job patrolling," Wes snarked. "Your movements are heavy-handed, you speak loudly and make a spectacle of yourself, and you fail to take adequate note of your surroundings."

Whether any of that was true or not was up for debate. Wes just felt like being a bitch to Gunn today.

"Oh, yeah?" Gunn growled back. "You really want to see how heavy-handed I actually am? Just say the word, English."

"I'm quite certain that won't be necessary," Wesley said quickly. He'd been going for smooth, but it came out a bit hasty and alarmed.

"Are you? Certain? Quite?" Gunn said mocking Wes's tone a. "I'd hate to make a spectacle out of myself."

"Well, in that case I'd suggest you depart," Wesley proposed, again doubting that it would be acknowledged. "I assure you I can manage a routine patrol without your - hindrance."

"Man, how dumb do you think I am?" Gunn said shaking his head. "One night in my neighborhood and you'd be nothing but a light snack. What are you going to do if a vampire would actually show up here? Stammer at them and apologize?"

"The practice you are struggling to identify is called manners," Wesley supplied helpfully. "Commonly used on people who one does not wish to offend. It is not a strategy one would employ on a vampire, no." He explained all of this in his most condescending Watcher-y tone, using hand gestures to help Gunn grasp the concept.

"Oh really?" Gunn replied sarcastically. "I had no idea. Perhaps you should show me what strategy you would use on a vampire? Does it include fumbling about and looking completely clueless?"

[wesleynotponcy]

"I could most certainly demonstrate," Wesley replied haughtily. "Or I could inform that it involves a series of martial arts, well-timed and precise motions, and rather quick reflexes I'm certain you don't possess." He mimed the action of fighting and staking a vampire, beginning with impressively smooth (if awkward-looking) movements and culminating with a staking motion which resembled - well, the obvious.

[yes, I totally ripped that last part off "Hush," but I thought of the look on Wes' face with the mimed-staking and I giggled for like a minute, so I totally had to include it.]

"... Man, I'm not even going to begin to tell you what that looked like to me."

Wes took a moment to decipher that comment, then promptly blushed so hard it wad physically painful. "Yes, well - that wasn't - that is to say, I didn't - er - that was not my intention."

"Nah, man," Gunn said trying to keep a straight face. "I'm sure if you pull that out on a vampire, it'll stop him dead in his tracks."
