As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held

Jake very clearly remembered a certain challenge made to him about how he cleaned up. Which he'd taken to heart and he'd even gone so far as to prove he could pull off an actual bowtie. He thought he succeeded rather well.

Didi's smile wasn't quite as bright as it usually was, and (for the first time) she wasn't wearing her ankh, but she attempted a grin at Jake all the same. "Looking sharp! Are you all dressed up for anybody in particular?"

"Only if you count proving them wrong as dressing up for anybody," he smiled at her and tilted his head. "You look different," he observed until he realized how badly that sounded. "Not badly, the dress is hot."

"It's all right," Didi said. "I feel a little different. I lost my necklace, and ... everything's a little off-kilter."

She shrugged it off. "Who are you trying to prove wrong?"

"Rosalind," he replied, still watching her with some concern. "Weird Friday?" he guessed.

"She's nice," Didi said. "And ... yeah. Bitched at my sister, lost track of my ankh, threw crap around my cabin ..." She let out a huff of air. "What did you do?"

He cringed and that was definitely a guilty look. "Something I really shouldn't have."

She raised an eyebrow, alarmed out of her numbness. "Tell me I don't need to help you hide a body."

He laughed at that and shook his head. "Don't worry, no leech got hurt," he said. "I'd rather not talk about it here?"

"...all right," Didi said, looking appropriately mystified. "We can talk about something else for now. What do you think of the new building?"

"Yeah, fancy enough," he nodded. "Not bad, they did well with the decorations." And it didn't smell like leeches, that was a plus, the flowers smelled nice. "Does this mean there are going to be more dances?"

"Good question," Didi said. "I don't see why not -- people just need to plan them, right?"

Jeff had no date, but he wasn't exactly a slamming date. Still, he was, as always, dutifully there when Fandom had an event, half-hoping to catch a glimpse of Turtle, half-hoping to... manage to talk to a woman for five seconds without saying something horrible.

He looked a little lost in his Hawaiian shirt, but he was there.

Denise was there, but only... not under duress, but definitely under boredom. She hadn't bothered to put on anything fancy, and she was mostly scanning the floor for any wallflowers.
