There was only so much camping, even in cabins (which did make it more bearable), that she could take. Too many people around, too many noises and an absolute lack of true privacy

Elena was completely over camping. Gathering around the fires at night to gossip, that part was nice. Being hot and sticky and out in the woods? Less so.
She stopped in for some much-needed coffee and air conditioning, hesitating when she spotted her sister. Run up and hug her? Flee? Run up and hug her, then flee?
She leaned against the counter and waved. That was a start.
Rosalind was most certainly not going to return that wave. Why was Elena waving at her?
"Elena," she responded, lifting her voice to be just loud enough to be heard over the noise of the place.
But definitely no waving. First knocking and then waving? More to think about and Rosalind frowned slightly as she saved the report she'd been working on.
Elena returned the smile. "'Dear Tseng: island still weird,'" she said lightly. "I used to think Reno was making up half of what he sent home in his reports, just to piss off Tseng."
She could believe how that would seem possible. Rosalind had great respect for Reno's abilities in the field.
But he did tend to deliberately do things much like that to aggravate Tseng as well. With a shake of her head, she continued, "I doubt he thinks the same of my reports."
He might believe she was actually crazy but Tseng would not believe she was making it up. She wasn't the type. At all.
"Just reports," Rosalind said, with a slight sigh. "I'm sure I'll hear from him once he's decided how to proceed with my reports." Because they did make her sound insane and she was aware of that.
With a glance over her coffee cup, Rosalind made her decision. "I did talk to you, however."
And that had gone... about as well as she'd expected it to go.

"Work?" she asked, nodding to the laptop.
She wasn't going to ask if Rosalind was sweltering, in that suit. Reno never took his off, either.

Admitting it was losing half the battle, really.
"Nothing more than a weekly report," she said, with a faint smile for her sister. "It can wait."
It wasn't due until six anyway and she was mostly just proofing it now.

If Reno was so much older, in Rosalind's world, Tseng might be, as well. She had to wonder how different all of them were.

She had been a brat. She fully remembered that much.

"I did," she said, with great dignity.
...
"... It went about how you seem have guessed." Sigh. But she'd tried, at least?

Very, very weird to have to ask about your end of a conversation.

And then they'd argued and she'd been hung up on, yes.

She remembered wondering why Rosalind didn't come home, any more, and when she stopped mattering. And deciding not to care, either.

Oh, like Rosalind was any better when it came to that.
"I told her I'd consider it but that I was unsure if I'd be able to obtain leave."
Because, really, why would Tseng let her back on The Planet when he'd sent her here to keep her out of trouble?

What was the point of that? Rosalind would have said 'no' anyway.
