Military Reserves, Wellspring Arms Shooting Range, Tuesday Afternoon

Jun 01, 2010 08:31

For the first time, it was Jak who took the first talking shift. "Hey, guys. We're in the shooting range for a reason," he said, nodding at the... well, the scenery behind him. "Some of you probably haven't used a gun before. Some of you haven't had enough practice. So we're getting some practice in today. If you don't know what you're doing, me ( Read more... )

The shooting range is a little more cramped than what the reserves are used to, but there are still cookies!

As usual, Firekeeper was not going to turn down food if it was offered, so she was munching on cookies. Blind Seer, of course, was not, since wolf stomachs are hardly built for that sort of thing.

Ino was mildly amused at their location and listened absently as she crossed her arms over her stomach.

And cookies were important! Because that was what the look on Tahiri's face was all about, really. Nothing to do with being faintly smug about knowing more on the topic than certain people (which was to say one certain person) looking way too serious business up there. At all.

Triela and Jak will be providing gun demonstrations today. Please wait for them to ping in first!

"This is a Morph Gun," Jak said, showing off his piece. Or rather, the big hunk of vaguely bricklike metal that was the Morph Gun when it didn't have any of its barrels attached. "You can do a lot of damage with it. It can support most kinds of barrels, so... you can do more stuff with it."

Words like 'versatile' weren't in his vocabulary, but just pretend he used it.

"This is the Blaster barrel," he said, holding up a yellow, round object. He pressed it into place on the Morph Gun, and suddenly it extended, becoming a lot more gunlike in shape with a yellow bent to it. Just go with it. "It's good for the long range. So."

He poked at the barrel. "Check nothing's in it," he said, "Plant your feet like you belong here," which he did, settling into firing stance, "Keep your finger off the trigger until you've got your aim just right ( ... )

Handguns have been provided. Just observe gun safety.

1. Always treat the gun as loaded.
2. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
3. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
4. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it.
5. Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy.
6. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
7. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using.
8. Always use proper Ammunition.
9. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting.
10. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun.
11. Don't rely on the gun's safety to keep it from firing.
12. Be aware of your surroundings when handling guns so you don't trip or lose your balance and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything.

Leda was still in hopes of somehow finding a way to modify a gun so it worked by magic, therefore making them work in Faerie. For now, she'd just make sure her aim was good here and now.

Hmm, just off center.

Tahiri's confidence in her ability to handle short and midrange firearms in a melee situation was pretty solid by now, though she did try a submachine gun out for a few minutes just to get the feel of the recoil.

If not for her Jedi reflexes, she would've staggered back pretty badly, and as it was her first few rounds were further off the mark than she'd have liked. Nope, still not a fan of projectile-based firearms.

She opted to give a sniper rifle a try after that, if only because what little experience she'd had with them was a few minutes grabbed here and there with some of Page's commandos on that last infiltration of Coruscant. Her aim was decent enough that she might be passable at this with some work, but . . . well, she doubted she had the temperament for it, and the Yuuzhan Vong warrior in her found the entire concept somewhat dishonorable.

She was working on that part.

Guns. Guns could KILL people!

Kurt nervously picked up a small pistol and examined it like he was afraid it would go off.

Jak was... more than happy to be dealing with his favourite subject, even if he wasn't a big star at the explaining part of the exercise.

He might have been spending most of his time at the range.

And Zack was there, totally working on his 'stern' expression and trying to scrape up a good lecture.

... The best that he was coming up with involved honor and dreams. Shocking.

Kennedy was not so much trying to come up with speech material or anything like that, no. She was mostly just sticking to the looking serious.

And feeling really tiny in the Mayor's presence. Whoa.

Cable was okay with the thought of students learning to fire weapons in a completely safe environment. To a point.

That point would involve him being present, so there he was.

Oh, wow, the mayor was even taller than he was. You didn't see that much around here!

Zack looked maybe a little impressed as he walked up to the mayor with a nod hello.

"Thanks for letting us do this," he began. "This will go a long way in seeing to it that people don't get caught off-guard in a bad situation with a weapon they're not familiar with."

Zack didn't think that he'd ever need to fire a gun, nah. Not with that sword of his. But, you know. Other people.

[For great SP? I kinda had to. HI CABLE.]

"I can appreciate the need to make sure everyone is ready for future invasions," Cable replied, glancing down at the young puppy Zack with a thoughtful expression. "And I've wanted to see the reserves at work..."

He'd trained his own bunch of angry youngsters back in his time. The fact they hadn't blown each other up in a year's worth of being a militia was interesting enough.
