After a weird phone call from the angel, Dean had put together what weekend it was and what tended to happen, and had driven pretty much for 12 hours straight to get to the island. He was going to go seek out said angel and guest, but first he needed a massive dose of caffiene.
Which meant he was at the Perk getting coffee. Or two. Or three.
Chuck needed some caffeine himself after being kept up all night by kids and the possible threat of Anakin coming into his room and killing him in the night. Amazingly he was only taking care of Jacob and Mary when he decided to make a field trip to the Perk.
"Oh look who it is," Chuck said when he spotted Dean. He let go of Mary's hand so she could launch herself at Dean for a hug.
Okay, that proved that Winchester kids could get used to anything as normal. Dean gave the kid a grin and reached out to ruffle his hair, like he used to do to Sammy when he was that young. "Remind me of your name?"
Jacob was getting used to the extra hair ruffling since Chuck couldn't seem to stop doing it once he realized that he wouldn't get an instant bitchface in return. "Jacob Bass-Winchester. But not the same Bass-Winchester as Mary because you and Dad together is gross."
That wiped the smile off Dean's face. He was pretty adept at reading between the lines and he wasn't liking what he was reading. He knelt down so he was on his the same level as his nephew. "Jacob?" he said gently. He wanted to ask what was wrong where he was from, but couldn't really come up with tactful words.
Jacob suddenly looked uncomfortable, hating that he was the one that had to break Uncle Dean's good mood. He hardly ever got to see his family happy. "Dad's not...he's not him. He's being used as Lucifer's vessel."
Crap. That was even worse than he'd been imagining. But his own trauma at the thought had to be secondary to the trauma of the kid in front of him. It was only a nightmarish possibility for Dean, but for Jacob it was the reality he was living with. He wasn't sure what he could say to make it better so he just pulled Jacob into a hug.
He wasn't apologizing for the whole Lucifer thing, since he had been told about a thousand times that it wasn't his fault. He was sorry that he seemed to be the one upsetting everyone else this weekend.

And maybe a piece of pie.
