There were two
sets of wickets knocked into the grass at a decent distance from each other. Two
bats lay off to the side in case anyone wanted to join in. Edmund, in the meantime, was content to
bowl the red cricket ball at the far wicket. When he hit (and he was a bit rusty, so he didn't always hit the wicket), he would walk down there, reset the wicket and walk back to where he'd been to do it all again.
It was like an old neighbourhood cricket match, only so far there was just him. But perhaps someone would be interested in joining in as they walked past.
