The Perk - Saturday Evening

Mar 06, 2010 19:49

This ship clearly was more spacious on the inside than the outside had indicated.

Rose DeWitt Bukater, however, was more disturbed about the fact that the servants had apparently mixed up her luggage with the clothes of someone who couldn't decide if he was a man or a prostitute.  The clothes that were in the closet of her stateroom!  Rose ( Read more... )

Chekov had spent the better part of the day trying to work out where he was. He was still at a loss, and was of the opinion that this was either somewhere in the United States or a United States-like planet. He'd sent out a message to Starfleet to come and find him and that was that. Now all he could do was follow protocol, gather information and try to find out what had happened to bring him here.

"Excuse me," the rather short Russian said, approaching the woman. The accent might have been a little hard to follow, but gosh darn it, he was trying so very hard! He wasn't sure if the thing on her head was a hat or if she was part of a species he hadn't met before and it was part of her head. "Do you know where this is?"

Rose gave him a little smile. Clearly he was both foreign and lost from steerage, but that wasn't any reason to be rude.

"It's the HMS Titanic, of course," Rose said. "Are you lost?"

He suddenly looked deep in thought. This was a ship? But outside was outside. Unless it was a very big passenger ship. "I am perhaps a little lost," Chekov agreed. "I was on my ship, the Enterprise, but it appears I have been accidentally relocated here. Do you know where I might find the captain?" Captain, of course, was pronounced 'keptin'.

"I'm afraid I haven't seen him since he ate at our table the first night," she apologised. "Perhaps one of the other White Star officers might be able to assist you." Not that she'd seen one around recently. "...how were you accidentally relocated?"

"I was thinking perhaps a problem with the transporter seestem," he said, struggling with transporter. Really, you'd think that he'd have a little less trouble struggling with syllables after being in San Francisco, but no. "But I see how it could be a friendly attempt at socialization by my crewmates." Or a prank, if you wanted to use less words. "Is the Titanic a ciwilian ship?" She didn't seem Starfleet.

"This is the transport system," Rose said gently. He was obviously foreign and touched in the head. "There's only one way to get across the ocean, of course."

"I did not know that there were such restrictions in place," Chekov conceded. Was there a power crisis? Martial law that prohibited certain types of transportation? Was the planet under attack? He definitely needed to see Doctor McCoy after all of this. Amnesia was not a good thing. This he knew from his reading. "I was on a Starfleet ship before here. My name is Chekow, Ensign Pawel Andreiewich. I wery greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter."

"Nice to meet you...Ensign Chekow," Rose said, having to think back to her finishing school lessons to be able to address him. She offered him her fingers to shake. "I'm Rose DeWitt Bukater."

"Wery good to meet you, Miss Bukater. If there is anything I can do to assist you please do not hesitate to let me know. And I will assist you."

It was the thought of a gentleman, but Rose was quite sure the tiny foreign boy was a little too touched in the head to offer any type of assistance. "Should we try to find you a White Star officer?"

"I will not trouble you," Chekov reassured her. "I am an Ensign in Starfleet. I will be able to find a White Star officer now that I have a better understanding of where I am." Even if he wasn't sure what White Star was. "Please, enjoy your tea."

"Thank you, Ensign," she told him. "I shall. And best of luck to you."
