And when not-so-wee puppies happened to see people casting what looked suspiciously like some kind of land-based Blizzaga, it was pretty much mandatory that they stop to stare for a few minutes.
"The only elemental spells I can cast are Fire and Blizzard," he shared, blinking at the ice from behind her.
... He didn't have anything else slotted into his sword for that sort of thing.

"And I've only been working with mine for a little while," he replied. "I mean, I've had them for a while, but my training back home has been mostly with my sword."
He was trying to change that, honest!

"Would you like more training with it?" she asked. She reached down to gather up Onion Knight. "I could help you, if you'd like."

"You could? I mean, you would?" See? Bouncing. "That would be so awesome! I mean, I get plenty of practise even around here with my sword, you know? But there just aren't enough opportunities to actually seriously break out the magic!"

"I have a Thunder tucked away somewhere, I think. I pulled it out of a chest while running a mission a while back, but I haven't really worked with it much."

And then he proceeded to give Lulu a kind of dopey, proud-of-himself grin. Yes, even for something as basic as Fire.
Kid didn't cast things often, no.

Anyone who was capable of tossing a Blizzaga around was probably more than well enough equipped to handle something as simple as Fire, after all.
"Right," he chirped, and there he went again, casting. This time, his target was Lulu, and the fireball seemed to hone in on her, veering slightly so that she was in its path, without much seeming to mind that Zack's aim had been a little off. "Like that!"

And then Onion Knight was on the ground again, and Lulu was sweeping low to the ground as she concentrated --
and a giant ball of flaming fiery burning awesomeness exploded out over the water.
"That's Flare," she explained. "We'll... work you up to that one. Now, Fire, again, and then a second time as fast as you can.
"I have Ethers if you need one."

"Again twice? I can do that. I have a bit more in me before I need to start using up items to keep going," he replied.
He had his own Ethers, anyhow.
After a moment of concentration, another Fire was headed Lulu's way, and another, a moment later. Either time, he had to focus before he could fling one away, but so long as nothing was there to interrupt him, he could start working on casting a second pretty much the instant that the first was fired off.

"How's your magic defence?" she asked, a moment later, considering.
