The Beach, Wednesday Morning

Feb 17, 2010 10:32

With everything involved in getting Fina settled, it had been a little while since Lulu had gone out for any kind of practice -- so, Wednesday morning, she elected to go to the beach and fling around some spells. Which would be why anyone coming up to this particular stretch of beach would have the warning of giant balls fire, ice, and brilliant ( Read more... )

Okay, see, it was morning. And morning meant that certain puppies who didn't have classes today were going to inevitably be out on their morning run, sword on their not-so-wee puppy backs for the benefit of the added weight.

And when not-so-wee puppies happened to see people casting what looked suspiciously like some kind of land-based Blizzaga, it was pretty much mandatory that they stop to stare for a few minutes.

"The only elemental spells I can cast are Fire and Blizzard," he shared, blinking at the ice from behind her.

... He didn't have anything else slotted into his sword for that sort of thing.

Lulu turned just enough to smirk, Onion Knight -- by virtue of being linked with Lulu for the castings -- mimicking the movement in his wee little cute way. "I'm a little beyond those," she explained, her eyes dancing. "But then, I've been learning for almost fifteen years."

Zack nodded thoughtfully, managing to successfully hold back an 'eeeee' at the Onion Knight's wee little motions.

"And I've only been working with mine for a little while," he replied. "I mean, I've had them for a while, but my training back home has been mostly with my sword."

He was trying to change that, honest!

Lulu nodded, considering.

"Would you like more training with it?" she asked. She reached down to gather up Onion Knight. "I could help you, if you'd like."

Zack, don't perk up too much, or you'll start bouncing again.

... Too late.

"You could? I mean, you would?" See? Bouncing. "That would be so awesome! I mean, I get plenty of practise even around here with my sword, you know? But there just aren't enough opportunities to actually seriously break out the magic!"

Lulu nodded, mostly hiding her smirk at the bouncing. "What can you cast already?" she asked.

"Well, right now I've got Fire and Blizzard, and Cure. And then a bunch of physical attack stuff, like Mug."

Mug was his precious and his baby and he loved it so. It was mastered, thank you Yuffie.

"I have a Thunder tucked away somewhere, I think. I pulled it out of a chest while running a mission a while back, but I haven't really worked with it much."

"Show me your Fire?" Lulu asked. "Just out over the water."

You... really couldn't get any more basic than Fire.

"Hm? Oh, right!" Zack nodded, and then held his hand out toward the water. Casting Fire was easy enough, anyhow; A fireball that gathered in his hand and then was tossed out harmlessly over the surf.

And then he proceeded to give Lulu a kind of dopey, proud-of-himself grin. Yes, even for something as basic as Fire.

Kid didn't cast things often, no.

"Hmm." Lulu hmmed. "Okay," she said. "This time, try casting it at me." She smirked. "I won't even try to dodge."

It probably said a great deal about the ways their respective worlds worked that Zack didn't actually look too concerned about the fact that his boss was telling him to lob a flaming ball of death at her, didn't it?

Anyone who was capable of tossing a Blizzaga around was probably more than well enough equipped to handle something as simple as Fire, after all.

"Right," he chirped, and there he went again, casting. This time, his target was Lulu, and the fireball seemed to hone in on her, veering slightly so that she was in its path, without much seeming to mind that Zack's aim had been a little off. "Like that!"

Lulu reached up a hand and let the Fire hit it directly, shaking off the sting of the impact. "Hmm," she said again. "Not bad for a beginner."

And then Onion Knight was on the ground again, and Lulu was sweeping low to the ground as she concentrated --

and a giant ball of flaming fiery burning awesomeness exploded out over the water.

"That's Flare," she explained. "We'll... work you up to that one. Now, Fire, again, and then a second time as fast as you can.

"I have Ethers if you need one."

Work Zack up to a Flare? Zack blinked and wrinkled his nose a little while he tried to puzzle that one out, and then he shrugged. He supposed he'd come across the Materia for Flare sooner or later. Maybe he'd make a quest of it the next time he visited home.

"Again twice? I can do that. I have a bit more in me before I need to start using up items to keep going," he replied.

He had his own Ethers, anyhow.

After a moment of concentration, another Fire was headed Lulu's way, and another, a moment later. Either time, he had to focus before he could fling one away, but so long as nothing was there to interrupt him, he could start working on casting a second pretty much the instant that the first was fired off.

Of course, just as the first one was being flung in Lulu's direction? Onion Knight was jumping down and bouncing along the ground, only to come over and kick Zack in the shins.

... See, so much for getting that second one fired off. That would be an interruption, and Zack's concentration was shot at the little doll thumping him in the leg.

"Hey!"

Really, he ought to have seen it coming.

"Lesson number one," Lulu said. Onion Knight jumped back up into her arms. "Learn to cast when you're being attacked."

Said the woman whose game mechanics meant that she had all the time to decide up and cast a spell that she desired.

"How's your magic defence?" she asked, a moment later, considering.
