"There are those that believe," Castiel started without preamble, "that to do harm to any other living, sentient creature is a sin. And to a certain extent, they may be right. To do harm with malicious intent, for no purpose other than the act of doing harm itself, is an act of evil. However, to do harm for the purposes of continuing one's own survival, such as in matters of self-defense or in procuring food, is not.

"Nor is stepping on or accidentally inhaling bugs. In case you were wondering.

"Doing harm to those creatures who are not normally sentient and animated in order to provide sanctuary or safety for others is also not a sin. Doing harm to those creatures who are not normally sentient and animated and are doing harm to others for one's own entertainment is . . . less of a black and white issue, but I rather think that one may be forgiven for enjoying the act of clearing the way for others to pass in safety." Yeah, he was pretty clearly talking about the vegetables, here. It's possible he had a little too much fun smiting them on Tuesday. "Doing harm to others for your mutual entertainment is . . ." Castiel frowned. "Well, to be honest, I'm not certain, but it may fall under that whole 'God doesn't care what you do with your reproductive systems' thing."

Just in case you were wondering.
