Theodoric of York: Wednesday afternoon

Aug 19, 2009 07:44

Layla usually wasn't one for a beauty salon, manicures, pedicures, massages or the like but classes were now over for her and coming from her conversation with Karla the other day it seemed like the thing to do after a busy summer quarter ( Read more... )

"There's no shame in enjoying it, darling," Emma called from where she was getting her facial, sprawled out and practically purring from happiness. "A girl deserves to be spoiled sometimes, that's all there is to it."

"Yeah, well when my nail polish flakes off in a couple of days I'll probably question it but right now I'm too distracted by-"

At that point one of the stylists started rubbing her temples.

"Mmmm. That."

"Yes, well, if you care for your hands properly and stop dressing like a color-blind homeless person, it will look nicer for longer. And then you just come in and have them do it again," Emma pointed out. "It's a wonderful system."

"What do you suggest then?" Layla smirked. "That I wear all white and a push-up bra? Not sure how that'll help the nails though."

Emma rolled her eyes. "A push-up bra won't help any of your problems," she said sweetly. "But if you put on a clear top-coat every day, use rubber gloves when you're doing laundry or washing dishes, and are more careful when you apply lotion to keep it off the nail, that should cut down on the flaking."

Layla shrugged. "Seems like a lot of work just to keep my nails pink. Besides guys never notice this stuff anyway."

"For someone who 'knows stuff,' you're awfully naïve, aren't you?" she asked. "When it comes to the physical attributes, guys notice everything."

"They notice boobs and butts," Layla replied with a smirk. "At least most of them do. If you walked into a common room and then left, I high doubt anyone would notice what color your toe nails are."

"And legs, hair, face... it's all about attention to detail, Miller. Consistent perfection will create a much better lasting impression than a single short skirt," Emma corrected.

"Besides, look at it this way: who are you going to want to spend time with? The guy that only notices your boobs, or the one that appreciates the time it took to put yourself together?"

"Actually I'll be spending time with Jamie Madrox," Layla answered cheerfully. "And he's got the attention span of a fruit fly. Most of the time. However I'm sure you reasoning is correct and will get you far in life."

Dinah wriggled her toes in the footbath, then smiled over at Emma. "Hey. Guess what Karla got me for a present. And you by extension."

Since Emma probably could not hear Dinah at all, due to her little sapphire wonder-bracelet, she'd probably guess right away.

"A pony," Emma announced in a fit of silly. "One with sparkles."

Why go for the obvious answer, when being, well, Emma was so much more fun?

Dinah giggled, then said, "Ooo, body sparkles!" Because they had lotions for that, right? "I should get a massage with those." She grinned happily, sooooo relaxed, and not even having to exert her shields for once either. It was a lot easier to be chilled out around Emma when she wasn't wincing about being too loud around the other girl.

"Nobody needs that much sparkle, Tweet," Emma sighed. She'd shake her head, except that would disturb the very nice masque currently on her face. "Let them save that for the raver-kids and tweeny-boppers."

Dinah stuck out her tongue, then grinned. "Maybe for Halloween." She closed her eyes and lay back. "You could get frost tips, Frost." Then she wrinkled her nose. "Naaah."

"I'll pass," Emma said dryly. "I'm pale enough, I don't need any more 'snow' or 'frost' jokes to go with it."
