The Perk (Friday, August 14, Late Morning)

Aug 14, 2009 19:27

Irulan had the Agatha Christie book she bought from Miss Bennet, she'd been enjoying the book. It was a different sort of novel from Dr. Brennan's and one she found she enjoyed on a different level. Miss Bennet's description of the book seemed accurate. A cozy mystery indeed.

(For one female stepson but open for all Perk needs!)

What better thing to do if you looked like your twin sister than to go and find a place where you could meet people who knew her? The Perk seemed like a good choice.

As he entered he noticed Irulan. Oh, this would be fun. He might look a little younger than his sister here, but he hoped he would confuse his stepmother for a while, at least.

"Good morning, Irulan."

She looked up from her book, "Good morning, Ghani...ma?" Irulan stopped for a few minutes. It was Ghani's physical appearance and face but her Bene Gesserit trained senses told her something was very different. "Did the island de-age you? You're younger."

"The island seems to be in a funny mood today," Leto said, smiling as he took a seat opposite Irulan.

Note that this wasn't really a lie.

"Yes, it does seem so," Irulan replied. No, it wasn't that Ghani was de-aged. It was... it was something else. Something about the way she carried herself.

Note that she still had that puzzled expression on her face.

Leto didn't expect Irulan to be fooled. Still, she couldn't blame him for trying. "So, how have you been, stepmother?"

"I've been well, recovered from my encounter with the vamp--" Irulan broke off, there was a minute gesture there that was not Ghani but not unfamiliar. "Leto? That is you, isn't it?"

And here Leto burst out laughing, because yes, this was funny.

"Really, Leto, you could have told me earlier," she said, giving him a 'tsk, tsk' look but not entirely surprised. This was the kind of prank Leto liked to pull.

It was a good thing Ghani and Leto were not identical twins if they were Irulan felt Leto would Ghani would frequently play the 'Which of is Leto/Ghani?' game.

"Yes, I could, but that wouldn't have been as fun," he told her.

Irulan was right. Had they been identical twins they would have messed with everyone.

"And how do you find waking-up to a female body, stepson?" Fortunately Irulan was never here for the part where the women turned into men although living in Fandom Irulan wondered how long that luck would hold.

She tried to hide her niggle of apprehension once she realized this was Leto and not Ghani. She hid it through careful control of her muscles but immediately knew it was futile. Leto could immediately discern truth whenever it was presented to him.

"Interesting," he replied. "A quite new experience, I have to tell you. Although Ghani warned me once it might happen."

Irulan's reaction was wonderfully entertaining.

"Did she look like your male form?" She asked. Irulan placed her book on the table but made sure the bookmark was in place. It wasn't really a question but she was making conversation. Irulan hadn't realized she was actively avoiding Leto until she was presented with Leto. In Ghanima's form but still Leto. "I wonder if that's how a face dancer feels."

"She did," he confirmed. "So that I would look like her was only logical." He thought for a moment. "Perhaps, but I assume they would feel less attached to a sense of true image. They are in change, constantly. It's their nature."

Irulan tried to imagine that but couldn't wrap her mind around the concept. "It certainly would be an interesting thing to tackle, academically."

She paused to sip her coffee. "It's good to see you, Leto, even if you are wearing Ghani's face."

It was the truth, she was apprehensive but she was happy to finally 'see' Leto and know he was safe.

"It's good to see you too," he said, smiling at Irulan. It was, and the teasing was just added fun.

"I'm glad your safe," Irulan said and pushed away her feelings of anxiety and guilt. "How have you been, Leto, caused any more mischief outside of teasing me?"
