Jack, as he'd tell anyone who'd listen, was born ready. Still, didn't hurt to do a few stretches to warm up Lefty and Righty. He faced off against Ronan, waiting to see what he'd do.

[Works for me.]
Ronan's smile widened a bit and he stepped forward. Just a step, not even bringing his other foot up behind him. He leaned forward, all his weight on his forward foot, his shoulders square, and he waited there a moment, too -- and then, in a move taught him by a friend long ago, he did a half-cartwheel, hands bracing him on the mat as his back foot came around in a powerful leg-sweep.

Jack was confused, then Jack was airborne and then Jack was on the mat. He sprang up--not as gracefully as a half-cartwheel--and aimed a sock to Ronan's jaw, keeping both hands in front of him. As you do.

Ronan saw the punch coming and, rather than dodging, rolled with it, letting it glance off his cheek. He kept spinning, coming around to elbow Jack in the side.

Yeah, that one connected, and right to Ronan's solar plexus, knocking the wind out of him for a moment. He staggered back, giving Jack the desired space.
He kept moving, though, after he regained his balance and his breath, circling rather than moving in.

Jack decided to step in, releasing a one-two punch with Righty and Lefty that should, if they connected, completely floor Ronan and give Jack the decisive edge.

Jack was still new to this thing where momentum could be used against someone, so when it happened, it happened quick, in a hurry, and without Jack seeing what happened.
That was how Jack ended up almost falling on the mat, his legs bunched under him thanks to his cat-like reflexes for a push to lodge Ronan off his back and free his arm.
Of course, this was assuming that Ronan wouldn't just use his body weight to tackle Jack.

The thing about momentum is that it works both ways -- Ronan did get pushed back when Jack pushed, yes, but he had the advantage of already having a solid grip on Jack's arm.
Which would be why Ronan did what he could to fall back into a somersault, and throw Jack over him and across the mat.

Jack believed he could fly. He believed he could touch the sky. These were his thoughts in the fight today until the mat came up to hit him like a cliche.
He stumbled to his feet. "Anyone catch the license plate of that truck?"

Or annoy Ronan. One of the two.

With any luck, his next move would succeed, too, forcing Jack's arm up and behind his back, forcing Jack down to the mats.
