The Perk [Monday Afternoon]

Jun 08, 2009 10:24

Veronica was comfortably ensconsed at a table with a large cup of coffee close at hand. There was a danish on a plate, but that was largely ignored as she worked on her lesson plan for tomorrow.

There might have been snickering.

[oooooooopen; sweet zefron I'm exhausted and bored out of my mind today. entertain me!]

It hadn't taken Serena long to find a place that made coffee to her exacting standards. Alright, maybe not that exacting, but a bone dry cappuccino was something she looked forward to each day.

Veronica glanced up when the door opened and noticed the girl who entered. She looked like a student and Veronica smiled when she caught her glance.

"Hey there," she smiled at the woman, giving her a nod. Honestly, Serena thought that she didn't look that much older than herself. Maybe a few years, so likely not a student. "Is this the place to find good coffee? Please tell me yes."

"Absolutely," Veronica assured her. "My favorite. It's half the reason I agreed to teach here this summer."

Definitely a teacher then. Serena grinned, sticking out a hand, "I guess I didn't take the right class, or I would have found out about it sooner. Serena."

"Veronica," she said, shaking the girl's hand. "I'm teaching SAT prep this session"

"See, already did that. If I'd have known..." Actually, if she could wipe the memory of the SATs from her mind, she'd be much much happier. "Last term for me. Back home though, in New York."

"Oh, I love New York," Veronica said. "What year are you going into?"

"Senior," almost done and almost off to college. "And I'll miss New York, mostly. Sometimes it's nice to get away, do new things."

Veronica nodded. "I've only been to New York a few times, but it's one of my favorites. I'm a California girl though."

"My mom grew up in California. Her parents had a ranch there. But I was always an East Coast girl myself," she admitted, unaware of how that might make her sound.

"I've spent my fair share of time on the East Coast in the last few years," Veronica said. "A year here for school, last summer in DC doing an FBI internship and now the summer teaching here."

"FBI?" Now it was Serena's turn to look impressed. "Wow. I haven't thought of anything after going to Brown. If I get in."

"Brown's a good school," she said. "I applied for Stanford, but ended up sticking around my hometown before transferring to UCLA. Any idea what you're going to study?"

"No idea. Literature, probably," even if that had been Dan's area more than hers. "Maybe politics."

Veronica nodded. "Both good areas of study. It would help to have an idea what you want to do after college though. Even if it's a vague idea."
