After getting a subtle nod from Ghanima, Elaine stepped up to the mats to find a partner.
While she wasn't pre-born like her mother, she was still Fremen and trained by the Aryeh of Atreides. Taking down an adult unarmed would be a challenge, but not impossible.

Rede had stood by Reno's side, silently watching what was going on right up until Reno had given him the go-ahead to join the sparring matches. He tried his best not to look too proud of himself as he stepped up to the mats. It wasn't that he was cocky, no. It was just that Reno giving him permission meant that the older Turk had faith in him.
And that was why he was smiling happily as he walked up to the girl on the mat.

Elaine just smirked slightly at the boy as she confidently stepped out on to the mats. "I don't know," she called over her shoulder. "Think you can keep up?"
Re: Open SparringweetinyturkApril 12 2009, 15:16:52 UTC
"I was bred to keep up," Rede replied, giving his shoulders a little shrug as he followed her. It wasn't boasting, really. It was simply the truth, delivered in a tone that made his own Reno kind of roll his eyes and tell him he was taking after his 'other old man.'
Rede usually took that as a compliment. Rude was pretty neat.

"You're awful skinny to come from a breeding program. Don't they feed your tribe?" Coming from whipcord thin Elaine, that was a bit hypocritical, especially as she followed her words with a jab at his ribs.
Testing the waters, first, to make sure she wasn't about to pound some over-ambitious child into the floor.

"That's not an Imperium planet," Elaine informed him primly. "You're an outworlder savage."
Which considering the rather brutal way she took the elbow to her shoulder and lashed out with a nasty kick to the back of his knees, was most likely a compliment.
Re: Open SparringweetinyturkApril 12 2009, 18:14:44 UTC
"I am?" This was news to Rede, who had never heard of the Imperium in the first place. He stepped forward with one foot so that, while the kick did land and make one knee buckle, it wasn't as serious as it could have been. He managed to catch himself decently quickly, and spun on his heel, aiming a somewhat calculated punch for Elaine's stomach. "What's the difference?"
The first time he'd seen daylight was a year ago. He was allowed to ask silly questions, right?
Re: Open Sparringsecher_nbiwApril 12 2009, 21:14:56 UTC
Elaine's smile was vicious as she threw her weight backwards, knee coming up to meet his stomach. "Well, if you weren't off to a good start, this wouldn't be any fun!"
Re: Open SparringweetinyturkApril 12 2009, 23:07:15 UTC
"We're doing this for fun?" Rede barely managed to dance out of the way of that one, her knee getting her quite solidly in the hip, instead. Ow. "I guess this is kind of fun, isn't it?"
He kind of just did it because he had to know how.
He bent over and threw himself forward at her, shoulder-first.

"No reason practice can't be fun," Elaine gasped, wincing at the impact and trying to jab her elbow into his face. "Mother says that if you don't enjoy what you do, you're in the wrong life."

He lived with Reno. He was used to having jabs and kicks and thumps to the head come out of nowhere. "I'm a Turk."
That was followed up with a kick toward her hip. He could test the waters right back.

And that was totally a matter of pride, yes, which he accentuated with an elbow thrown backward at her chest. "The planet is called Gaia, though."

He was grabbing at her arm, while it was still outstretched, to see if maybe he could grapple her to the floor.
