It was a pretty bloody good thing that a patrol was on the agenda for the day, because it was looking pretty bloody needed. With more excrement in her hair than she would ever like to admit to and having heard some insults that bested some of the drunkest London party girls, Daisy was not even going to harp on Kowalski anymore about going on and ( Read more... )

Steve had noticed their...visitors while out on his morning run, and had returned home for more appropriate monster-fighting gear. Now he was looking to play some really ultimate Frisbee doing a little patrolling of his own.

Looking a little worse for wear in defending the town, the sight of someone else prepared was a welcome one. "Careful out there," Daisy warned, in a fashion that was quite...policewoman of her.

"Listen, it's swarming," Ray called, "You trained for this?"

Hey, the guy was stocked up, but it didn't mean you couldn't check.

"I always am, ma'am," Steve reassured the lady with a smile, and told Ray, "I've been doing this for years. Well. The poo thing is new."

It was so weird to have someone questioning his training.

He gauged distance, tossed his shield, and knocked a harpy winding. He had just enough time to admire his work before the shield ricocheted back to him. He caught it with ease. "Like riding a bike."

Daisy exchanged a look with Ray, because, you had to admit, he was pretty handy with that thing, it was a heck of a lot more effective than guns, and there were just a bit too many of the harpies to really turn down any help that came along.

The look became particularly true, albeit interrupted by a wince, when one of the harpies decided to offer another colourful and wholly inappropriate description of Daisy's night-time activities.

"Yeah, like a bike, poo new, got it," Ray said, trying his hardest not to stare at the shield. "Um, handy. Can you take out the left flank? We're on right."

Well, now they were, before Day was going to eviscerate one for saying something about VDs or whatever.

"Can do," Steve said, and sent the shield spinning at another bunch of harpies. It was kind of like bowling, if the pins were intent on doing you grievous bodily harm. He loved this part.

It was okay if Ray stared at the shield. Steve was used to it.

And so that was that. Daisy quickly loaded in a new clip and wasted no time in getting back to the flank Ray had assigned them.

Ray broke off his staring to get to the job. Even if he did kinda look back again. Man. Throwing shield. You did not get more whack than that.

Ray thought it was kinda awesome. Ray was not gonna say anything, though. Ray was gonna shoot some harpies that were heading straight for Day.

Steve caught his shield again, eyed the guns, and had to ask, "Have you considered nonlethal force?"

"Yeah," Ray called straight on back, winging a harpy, "The first two hours!"

"We even tried," said Daisy, meaning she had even tried, "asking them nicely."

"It takes at least five shots to do any lethal damage, anyway," she admitted a little ruefully, popping at least three of those into another. "They're brutal, and very insistent."

Sokka looked at Steve's shield in awe, and held up his boomerang, which seemed tiny in comparison.

"You, sir, are AWESOME," he declared.
