For the wallflowers, the snarkers and the people who can't wait to get back to their rooms to make with the kissyface.

Buffy was having one of those "shadowy corner? or no shadowy corner?" dilemmas.

Then she figured that she was more comfortable in shadowy corners anyway, so she and her punch would be right over here.

It was... that girl from the library. Merlin waved at her, smiling distractedly. "Hullo!"

"Hey, Merl...in?" She hoped she got it right, and if not, she'd claim she'd just given him a new nickname. "Check you out, all dance-bound. How's it going?"

Yes she was still dying of curiosity.

"Buffy--?" He replied, also praying that was correct. It was an odd enough name that he didn't think he could have forgotten it.

...yes, he was calling someone else's name strange.

"Very well actually. You look very--nice."

"Oh, this old thing?" She'd spent more money than she'd ever admit to given how not rich she was. "Thanks. You here with anyone?"

"Francine," He replied, grinning once quickly. "And, of course, Arthur."

After a pause he had to add, "But not as a date. Arthur, not Francine. She's the date."

Which sort of confused her, but hey, who was she to judge? "Good thing you clarified, I might've been confuzzled," she said. "I don't know if I know Francine. I'm sure she's cool, though."

"Arthur's my master," He said in way of explanation. Which so helped. Really.

"...Not the whips and chains type, right?" What? Buffy lived a different life than a lot of people, one where her boyfriend had chains randomly in his home. Things like this came to mind.

Merlin sputtered for a moment, taking that in a less... dirty way. "The stocks at most. I don't think he'd have me beaten!"

"I'm sorry, did you say stocks?" Wow, that took no imagination at all to figure out those possibilities. Bad brain, bad!

"Well, yes. But it's better than a night in the dungeon!"

They were so on the wrong page.

Tiny bit! "Huh. Maybe I'm biased. I've had bad experiences in dungeons. They're cold, and uncomfy, and then there are giant snakes and it all goes bad."

Mostly said because if he also had experiences with giant snakes, she was going to have to run away. ...Or pull up a chair and ask more questions. Who knew.

Well... Merlin couldn't counter that because they rather were. But the last, on the other hand, "Giant snakes?"

"My life isn't boring," Buffy replied. Hey, if she had to be public, might as well have fun with it. "What, you don't have giant snakes?"
