Chilly Boulder, Sunday Evening

Aug 03, 2008 20:55

Faith had found some loose change under her couch! Four whole dollars!

So she did the 'sponsible thing and went to the ice cream shop and got the biggest, gooey-est sundae she could for four dollars. It had whipped cream and nuts and sprinkles and everything.

(So, so open.)

After parting ways with Igor, Murdock kept heading down the street when he spotted...

ICE CREAM!!!

He eagerly hobbled in, the dog trailing after.

"You can't bring your dog in here," Faith huffed.

She had no idea if you could or not. But it was a dog and it probably smelled funny.

"Is there a sign?" he huffed back, not having any idea if there was a sign or not. "An' anyways, he's not my dog. I founds him!" A beat. "Is he yours?" It was asked quietly, as if he were hoping the answer would be no.

"I don't got a dog," Faith said. "Does he have a collar? If he don't have a collar, maybe he's a stray."

"Might've never had somewhere to run 'way from," Faith shrugged. "Some dogs just live out in th' woods and all."

She edged back from the dog, not wanting to get bit. He was big.

"Mebbe," he shrugged. "He won' hurt ya," he said, noticing her moving away. "He's realll friendly."

The dog wagged its tail some more, still sniffing the air.

"I don't like dogs," Faith said, folding her arms.

Especially not big scary black ones that could bite you.

"Oh." Murdock thumped his leg with a hand, "C'mere boy! C'mon!"

The dog moved back, giving her space.

"See? He friendly. He won' hurt ya. What's your name? I'm HM."

She was visibly relieved when the dog backed up, and tried not to be. "I'm Faith. What's the HM for?"

He shrugged, "I dunno. I had peoples call me 'Murdock' earlier, but tha's my last name an' it's silly to call people by their last name."

"Some people do," she said. "Like Sulley an' Kennedy."

"Really?" he asked, sounding surprised. "Do you think I shoud? Murdock sound better than HM?"

Actually, he really didn't like HM, but its what Grammy and Gramps called him all the time. He didn't want to have them mad at him or anything because he changed his name.

"Depends on what you like," she shrugged. "I like Faith way better than Lehane. That's just stupid."

"I think it silly t'have a name that's only letters." He considered it for a minute. "Then I'll be Murdock!" he beamed. "Thank you!"
