The safe option would have been to stay indoors. Or not. Given the proximity of the newly active volcano, it would have been safer still to stay away from the island.
Instead, Mohinder found himself walking across the island, hoping this was a natural -if unfortunately timed- pyrotechnic display. Head down and jacket collar pulled up, he brushed away the lightly settled ash from hair and shoulders. The ground under his feet had grown rocky, and as he looked around in the fading light, Mohinder realised it was elevated enough that the lightning and plumes of smoke over Bali Hai were plainly visible.
Here was as good a place as any to see what happened next.
