There were lots of tables and chairs set up in the park, under sails for shade, and long tables groaning under the weight of the food and drink. Not just traditional moddable brunch foods, but a wide selection of also ( Read more... )

Sit and eat, or sit and talk, or sit and boggle, or whatever else you you can do with a table!

Peter had somehow ended up with a huge, huge plate full of food. Somehow. So he found a seat at one of the tables and prepared to eat it in celebration of their graduation.

"Great speech, Peter." Parker toasted him with a cup of coffee as she went to get a bagel. "Glad it's over?"

Adah was still upset about the fact that Rachel was here. Well, actually, Adah was upset about a lot of things, but that wasn't exactly rare. So, really, when she, her sister, and her mother all sat down to brunch, it really was no surprise that she did more slouched sulking at her food than anything else.

After Lee had eventually pulled himself out of bed, he wandered down to the park again and hey, if there was free food, he was there.

Spotting one familiar, he made his way over, gave the other women at the table a quick smile before turning to Adah and saying, "Congratulations! You looked great up there!"

To her defense, things like having to deal with fairies who tried to kill you and then mark you and, even worse, the unexpected visit of your older sister tended to make a girl like Adah forget a couple details. Like this one. She blinked, straightening a bit with a slight jerk, pulled away from where she was staring at her food and trying to drown out her sister with wide eyes and almost no color left in her face. She stared at the Eel for a moment, because, really, in her present company, she wasn't exactly going to say thank you; I know back.

The interruption was certainly enough to have Rachel trailing off a bit from her complaining about the fact that she thought of some of the help that Eeben had hired had been stealing sugar from the kitchen, especially since the guy she'd been idly eying had started heading over and, in an almost surreal end of events, started talking to Adah.

She stared a moment, then blinked. "Well..." So he was the guy she thought she saw stand up and clap at the ceremony. She wasn't sure, she was still trying to get over that really weird thing happened. And then, Rachel snorted. "It's probably going to be too much to ask for you to introduce us to your friend, there, Ade..."

The tone was joking; the look of annoyance in Rachel's eyes was definitely not. Oh, what? Genius little sister upstaging her with graduating high school wasn't enough, now it turns out she's friend with the G-D captain of the football team? She didn't think the school even had a football team, but if they did, this guy looked like he could be captain.

"Oh oh, sorry," Lee said, looking apologetic. "Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. I'm sorry for interrupting. Should I come back later?"

If there weren't plates and food on the table and the table wasn't set as low as it was, Adah would have simply plopped her head right down and hit is a few times. Since she couldn't do that without even more awkwardness than she was feeling at the moment, a nice facepalm after setting her fork down would have to suffice.

Yes, she knew she said she wanted the Eel to meet her mother. That was before, however, she knew that Rachel would also be there.

Too late now.

Especially since watching her sister's actions only inspired Rachel to be certain that this was going to be interesting. Smirking a bit to herself, she kicked out the empty chair at the table from underneath, opening up for the guy to sit down. "Not interrupting at all!" she enthused. "Go ahead; have a seat..."

Orleanna suddenly wished she'd taken a much bigger cup of coffee. Sighing slightly with a weary glance between her two polar daughters, her attention went to the boy. "You a friend of Adah's, dear?" she asked, and, no, she still wouldn't get used to saying phrase like that, but she had a feeling that at least asking it this time wouldn't turn out to be as...enlightening as the last time she asked, the last time she was here.

Assuming Rachel behaved herself. Or Adah, for that matter.

Yes. Definitely wishing she'd gotten more coffee...

"Thank you," he said, nodding and sliding into the empty seat. "Uh, yeah, I am. I'm Lee. Adama. Lee Adama. And yeah, we're friends. We met last summer."

"Last summer?" Orleanna's head tilted slightly. "When she started here? She'd never mention--"

"Of course she hadn't mentioned," Rachel interrupted with a roll of her eyes. "Adah doesn't mention anything; she doesn't talk. That's probably not news to any of her friends, Mother..."

Orleanna's surprise, however, gave a little fuel to Rachel's whole theory on how this was all just an evil little plot on Adah's part to make Rachel look even worse. Because that was the sort of thing Adah would do, convincing some guy (probably paid him off; that's how she would have handled it) to come and make it seem like she even had a social life, was living the whole teen queen dream that Rachel was supposed to have, when she was sitting there playing housewife to a greasy scam artist in a third-world country.

Rachel gave him a bright smile, though, expertly masking her searching for superior motives from plenty of practice from her husband's events, and she stretched a slender, white hand across the table. "It's nice to meet you, Lee. I'm Rachel, Adah's older sister."

Aside from attempting to make it obvious she wasn't glaring over Rachel's outstretched hand, Adah was just trying to make herself relatively unnoticed, shoulder creeping up. Not that it was ever difficult for her to completely disappear in the present company.

"Good to meet you too. Both of you," Lee said, nodding at both women before taking the hand offered to him. He glanced over at Adah briefly, smiled, and said, "It's easy to forget to mention things in a place like this. There's a lot happening."
