Makoto made sure to show up early for 'her' shift just so 'she' could make sure they had enough crayons and paper just on the off-chance that they were overrun by weetiny children today.

... Makoto was kinda hoping that was the case. 'She' had no problems with children.

Zuko shook his head as he stood on tiptoes to see what Makoto was drawing. "That's not how it works," he told him.

It was just a few trees and birds. Makoto never claimed to be creative when it came to drawing. "That's not?" 'she' said, smiling, "Does that mean you're going to defend my honour if need be?"

Zuko glanced up and nodded instantly. "Why? Who hurt you? Was it Sokka? I can take him, no matter if Mel will help him. They're not benders like me and and Katara."

"No one hurt me," Makoto assured him, "I said 'if need be', but there's no need right now. And you're not to go around 'taking' anyone, okay? If you want to, come and tell me and I'll see if I can settle it, you understand."

The last thing they needed was small children fighting. Especially when the children had training.

"Then you ignore him," Makoto said firmly, "because you're better than he is and so shouldn't sink to his level."

Zuko considered it for a long moment, then he grinned up at Makoto. "That's true because I'm a prince and he's just a peasant. But it's okay for Katara because I'll take care of her and then she'll be a princess too."

Makoto felt kinda bad for Sokka in this case. But if it lowered the chances of kids fighting... yeah, okay.

"That's right, so you've got to be better than he is." Makoto nodded. "And who is Katara? I don't think I've met her yet, but if she's to be a princess then I'm sure I'll like her."

"She's his sister, but she's nice and she's a waterbender," Zuko said in a loud whisper. "My father says waterbenders are bad, but they can't be if she's nice, right?"

"Why would your father say that? Does he know any bad ones?" Makoto asked. "And I think that if she's nice you should be her friend even if she is a waterbender."

"She is," he said instantly, but then he shrugged and glanced down at the drawing. "There's a lot of bad ones otherwise we wouldn't be fighting them, right?"
