Trenor was being remarkably well behaved considering he'd been locked up all week, bearing Karal and Willow with good grace around the island's edge. It couldn't be too much farther. If the boat was here, they had to find it soon, because they were going to run out of island ( Read more... )

Willow squinted at it. "Looks safe from here. But then again that could be what it wants us to think."

"I think we can risk it. Hang on to his mane, the slope is quite sleep." With a quick nudge, Karal guided Trenor down the hill, pushing through some scrub, and they stepped out onto a tiny crescent of beach,

The boat, resting firmly upright against a large rock, didn't react. Which, all things considered, was a good thing.

Willow hung on, then gave Trenor a pat. "Thank you, Trenor."

She felt being polite to animals was very important, regardless of whether or not they talked.

That done, she studied the boat.

"Do you think we've had a long enough dramatic pause for any demons, ghosts, and/or other lurking evil to have pounced on us by now?"

It actually made him chuckle. "We could wait a few more seconds, but it might ruin the moment," he said and slid off Trenor, tying his reins to a convenient bush. "If the lurking evil wasn't paying attention, that's hardly our fault."
