Doogie was in a somber mood as he made the rounds through the cot area and checked on the growing number of patients. The idea that someone could die from this sickness had occurred to him, but he wasn't expecting it to happen to one of the students. Needless to say, he was determined to not lose anyone else.

Anathema had been at the makeshift clinic since early Tuesday, doing what she could. Now, she was just sitting on a chair, shivering and trying not to throw up.

"Then lying down will be just thing for you," he pointed out. "Please? There's a perfectly comfortable cot you can lie on, just over there."

Anathema started to argue, but her meager lunch decided that now was a good time to reappear, so she weakly followed after Karal.

After the fruitlessness of library, Karal was here.

And he was missing a Firecat that he really would like to see at some point.

Sometime that evening, after hearing about what was going on on the radio, Gavin wandered, spotted someone familiar and made a bee line for him.

"Karal," he said. "You're not sick, right?"

Karal blinked, then frowned at Gavin in worry. "No, no I'm fine," he assured him. "But you, are you well?" He was already studying him carefully, looking for any signs of illness. "Please tell me you're not sick?"

"Fine, nothing wrong," Gavin said. "Sorry, I don't mean to interrupt but I had to check. Inara told me what was going on and I couldn't make it over last night."

Karal smiled and it was pure relief. "You are not interrupting and I am very glad to see you, and to know you are not sick. I was worried when I saw you," he explained, leaning back against a convenient wall. He was starting to feel his lack of sleep. "Inara was here yesterday evening."

"She told me was coming over," Gavin nodded. "You look exhausted. Can I get you anything?"

He shook his head. "I'm all right. Honestly, it's a relief just to know you're well. Aravis," he bit his lip, "Aravis is sick. I brought her in this morning."

His nice calm expression slipped, and his shoulders slumped. "Bad enough. She let me bring her in without an argument, and no one has gotten any better. They just keep getting worse."

The fact that she'd come in without an argument was proof that this was bad. She'd have clawed eyes out if she could.

"This reminds me of..." He trailed off and rubbed his eyes. Hadn't thought about that similarity before.
