The Arms Hotel Lobby, Friday

Gunther seemed like he was over Wolfgang's marriage, so Mary thanked her lucky stars. She did keep him at arms length in case he tried to grope her again because she didn't need that. She was already expecting Barney Stinson to drop by today and she had a feeling she'd also have to avoid being groped by him.

At least today was River's first day. ( Read more... )

John left his room, wondering how much trouble he'd be in if he decided to clean out the carb in the middle of his tidy hotel room. Probably a lot. So instead? Food.

Mary hadn't seen a lot of the new guest who checked in, so when she spotted him in the lobby, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.

"Hi there! How are you enjoying your stay?"

"Uh, hi. It's been good," he said, not giving her the once-over. Okay, slightly. "I was wondering," he said, slowly, "if there are arrangements for special services here?"

"What kind of special services are you looking for?" asked Mary. He better not be looking for a hooker or Mary might lose it.

"Just... a away to clean up if things get messy. Old towels or something. Maybe a tarp so the oil doesn't get everywhere..."

Mary was a veteran of Las Vegas strangeness. The only things that Mary could think of that involved messy hotel rooms and oil were bachelor parties gone wild and homemade porn movies. Unfortunately, she's seen too many of the latter at her properties in Vegas.

Mary cleared her throat. "I'm afraid we're not that type of hotel. We strive to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere here at the Arms," she said. "Perhaps there are some places on the mainland that are better suited to your, um, activities?"

"I'm sure there are, but that defeats the purpose of doing it myself," he said. Though, if he did clean the carb on the mainland, there'd be parts stores right there.

"And it's not like it's not family friendly. Might be a bit loud, but I've taken care of that. Maybe a bit smoky is all." Cuz John is all about the not-dirty even when he's dirty.

"Smoky?" repeated Mary, confused.

"Well, it does burn a bit of oil. I'm working on that. I think it needs new rings. It's a bit worn from being ridden hard."

Now Mary was so completely confused that she couldn't come up with a response.

"There's a repair shop on the island, but I--the owner doesn't-- I'm no longer sure if they have what I'd need. I'm just looking for a way to finish the project with a minimum of fuss and a minimum of muss."

She looked confused. "Would you like me to show you? I mean, it's not gonna get me kicked out, right?"

"Repair shop?" repeated Mary. Okay, maybe she jumped to an unsubstantiated conclusion.

"Yep. Sparky's. I used to work there back when I was a student. Now... I'm teaching a workshop." He's clueless that she's confuzzled about what exactly he's doing there.

"You're a teacher?"

Maybe Mary should just start all over again.

"Not exactly. Well...I guess I am. For this summer, at least. Fandom Graduate, class of 07." Which should boggle a bit, because he's clearly in his early 20s.

"You're a teacher," repeated Mary, "so you're definitely not filming porn movies?"
