Our Lady of Fandom, Saturday all day

Gabriel  was in a surprisingly good mood, and it couldn't be due to the weather, as he rarely cared much about it. Unless it rained and his clothes got wet, that was another trying part of being human. Anyway, he couldn't define a cause for this slightly disturbing positive attitude, and even considered a walk round the island during some point ( Read more... )

Karal, attention divided between watching where he was going and calling directions to Molly, scurried up to the church doors and pushed them wide open. "It is only three of four steps, Molly, and you'll be at the doors," he called, hurriedly getting out of the way.

Molly wasn't having any problems carrying the bed, but seeing in front of her was definitely an issue. The first step appeared in her line of vision and she started to walk up. "Am I going to make it through the doors okay?" she called.

Gabriel heard the doors open and recognised Karal's voice. He jumped off the altar, wondering what was going on. "Karal?"

"Gabriel, yes, and my friend and I have brought your bed." He glanced into the church and smiled at Gabriel, before turning back to Molly. "Veer to your left a few inches, and it will go through," he told her, then dropped to one knee so he could see her under the bed. "We are almost there."

Molly veered left and grinned at Karal when he peaked under. "I'll set it down once I get inside so I can actually see where I'm going to take it first." She'd heard Gabriel but decided that introductions could wait until she didn't have a bed over her head.

Gabriel noted that the girl seemed quite strong for a human female. Strong for a human, in fact. He made a mental not of that, as heavy physical work was not his thing at all. "Corner over there will be fine," he said, pointing.

A smile appeared on his face. Hopefully this would get rid of the backache.

Karal nodded and smiled up at Molly, pointing where Gabriel had. "If you go straight up and then turn, you should not run into anything. The pews are low enough the bed will simply pass over them."

"Okay," Molly said with a nod and went the way he directed. "Just yell if I'm going to hit anything."

Watching the bed being placed neatly in the corner, Gabriel looked pleased. This would certainly be an improvement. "Brilliant," he said, then thought for a moment, noticing a pile of hymnbooks on a pew. He really didn't need those. Picking up two, he offered one each to Karal and the girl. "Take these as... tokens of my gratitude."

"It is not necessary," Karal said hurriedly. All Gabriel had was what was in this church. Karal would not take anything away from him. "We were happy to be able to help. Gabriel, this is my friend," and his ears were perhaps the slightest bit pink, "Molly. Molly, this is Gabriel."

Molly walked back over from setting the bed in place and automatically took Karal's hand. She smiled at Gabriel. "Nice to meet you," she said. "And I don't need a gift either. Moving stuff is easy. I am glad to help."

He put the books back. They might possibly come in useful some other time. "Molly. Nice to meet you Molly." He managed some kind of smile. "You're strong, that's useful. And, um... welcome to the church."

He was a lot better at delivering messages from God than making polite conversation. Unfortunately there was a long time since he'd had any such messages to deliver.

"Gabriel lives here," Karal said, smiling at both of them while he squeezed Molly's hand, proud of her for refusing the gift. "Which is why we were bringing him a bed."

Molly nodded. "It was nice of that hotel lady to let us have one. I hope it's a nice bed," she said to Gabriel. She didn't comment on the strong thing since he just seemed to be making an observation.

"Yes, she's a... nice lady," Gabriel replied, tapping his fingers on one of the pews. He noticed the hand-holding and while it did surprise him a little - Karal seemed sensible - he knew that was a human obsession. Pairing up and multiplying and all that. He shrugged off the shiver that caused.

Karal could tell Gabriel was uncomfortable, but he didn't want to leave right away. "She is. I think there are many people in town who would be willing to help you. The people of this island seem, on the whole, very nice."
