Jack had been having a really great night. He'd sung, he'd had a couple of drinks, he'd generally lazed around and enjoyed being with people he liked. Which was why he stopped dead when he saw Kawalsky. His pleasant walk had just become rather less pleasant and his night rather less great.

Eyes narrowed, he considered turning around, walking away, but the street was anyone's to walk on and besides, Kawalsky didn't look quite right. "Kawalsky," he said neutrally, approaching him slowly, staying out of reach.

Charlie huffed and pushed himself uneasily to his feet. "Harkness," he replied, attempting to stand up straight and ending up leaning against the wall instead. It was easier. "You want something?" His voice wasn't as aggressive as it usually was. He sounded tired.

A smart ass response came and went unsaid. Barely. "No. Just walking." He stopped, head tilted while he studied Kawalsky. Something definitely wasn't right with him, not that Jack gave a crap, but the Sam in his head was glaring at him. Barely suppressing a sigh, he shoved his hands in his pockets, staying at a safe distance just in case this was a ruse. "Everything okay?"

"No," he admitted, wiping at his mouth. That admission alone was uncharacteristic. "Listen, if we're gonna, y'know, fight or argue about something stupid and not important, can it wait 'til tomorrow?"
