The Perk [all morning]

Feb 26, 2007 08:17

Anakin was in the back corner of the Perk, holding the World's Largest Cup of black coffee between his hands and staring at the snow outside.

Maybe his arrival had gone unnoticed and he could have a quiet morning by himself to acclimate.

[OOC: But of course I'm not expecting that to happen. Chat away!]

The radio didn't exactly tell Aeryn anything about what's going on. She's pretty sure someone just said something about Anakin being Vader and the squirrels caught it. If so, she's going to have to kick some squirrels, if he didn't already send them all running or something.

She's spent the first part of her morning stalking Vader's office in case he's in there (yes, she did say she wasn't going back. She lied like a lying thing), then decided she should just go for a walk, and while she's out, she might as well get some coffee, because she's not going unprepared if she needs to throw something at him next week.

So when Aeryn gets up to the counter, it's kind of only by chance that she sees Anakin. And she's left kind of just standing there, not sure what's happening.

"Hello, Aeryn," Anakin said quietly, watching for her reaction.

When the barista tries to take her order, Aeryn tells her to shut up, instead stepping closer to Anakin's table.

She doesn't say anything at first, because the "um"s kind of don't need to be said.

Well, no, actually, frell it, yes they do. "Um."

"I'm not going to throw anything at you," he said, focusing on his mug.

Just in case she was wondering which Anakin this might be.

"I would beat you down if you tried," she says slowly. Yeah, she's still a little pissy about last week. "Is that really you?"

Anakin nodded, eyes wary. "It's really me."

He was more than half-expecting to get hit.

The only reason he's not is because he's still sitting, and telling him to stand would be like a warning.

Still watching him carefully, her mouth opens and closes a few times, not sure she can ask all the questions she has here, and there are quite a few of them.

Anakin's staring was bordering on the inappropriate. "It's good to see you again," he said, and that was the truth.

She'd gotten so used to the suit it's strange to see him like this now. It's taking some adjusting.

"You just saw me last week," she reminds him. When he'd thrown things and she'd walked out.

Anakin tapped his cheek. "It wasn't exactly the same," he said, then wondered exactly when he'd picked up Obi-Wan's way of carefully spinning words.

"Oh? How so?" It's probably the closest she's going to come to an outright wtf.

"My vision was a little...distorted...then," he replied.

"Yes, I noticed," Aeryn says. "And that's all better now?"

She's not sure if she's being sarcastic.

Just for a second, Anakin met Aeryn's eyes, his expression full of guilt and pain.

"I'm working on it," he said.

She finally softens, just a little. She isn't sure what happened, but she believes him. Nodding, she says, "Good."

Anakin took a sip from his mug. "I'll explain all of it," he told her quietly. "Just not here." He glanced around. "The squirrels don't need this story."
