Ellen had managed to handwavily get herself a room at the local hotel after the cab had dropped her off at the end of the causeway, but it was hardly late enough to retire for the night.

So after stowing her things and grabbing a jacket, she headed out to the streets of Fandom to see what this place was like.

Still somewhat on edge from her encounter with Chris and Wyatt in the Perk earlier, Jo was walking the streets not like that omg. She stopped dead when she caught sight of Ellen.

"Mom?"

Ellen hadn't expected to see her daughter so soon, but she wasn't about to complain when providence brought her around. "Hey, sweetie. How's your weekend going?"

Jo meant to give some completely self-assured and hey, checking up on wasn't really necessary, reply to Ellen, instead she just kind of started sniffling.

Look, she was fourteen, she was allowed to act like that sometimes.

Surprised, Ellen reacted immediately, reaching out to pull her daughter into a hug. "What's wrong?" she asked, slightly hushed and concerned.

Waldo picked up the cab after Ellen was clear of it. He wanted to see the causeway from the point of view of a car.
