Empire Records - Open [9/1]

Sep 01, 2006 09:26

Kaylee showed up for her first day at Empire Records. She was very excited about this because she could learn more about earth music while making some extra cash.

Though she didn't know much about the music, she'd be willing to help any customers.

[ooc: Will be afk for a few hours. Back!]

Pete had decided to explore the town a bit more, looking for more information. The local record archive might be a good place to start.

What he encountered? Was not the sort of record he expected.

"What in tarnation. . . ?"

Kaylee looked over at another unfamiliar face. "Hello. Can I help you?"

"Dunno about that, Darlin'. Thought this was supposed to be a 'record' place? 'Bout the 'empire' of Fandom?"

"Oh! That's just the name of the store," Kaylee explained. "There are all different kinds of music here. Some even on records, I think. We got CDs too!"

"I don't understand half of what you just said. You say you sell music here?"

Kaylee smiled. "Yep, we sell music."

"What . . . kind of music? And what's that got to do with records? And what is a 'CD'?"

"We sell all kinds," Kaylee replied, holding up a CD. "A CD is this round shiny thing that plays music. Records are also round, but bigger. And not as shiny."

Pete stared at the shiny thing for a long moment. "They put music on dinner plates, now?"

Hadn't he heard of something that could play music, something Dixie and Brisco had gotten involved in. . . .

"How do you get the music out?"

Kaylee pointed to a CD player. "You stick the CD in that and it plays music."

Then she realized something. "You ain't from this time, are ya?"

"I'm from 1894."

Now it all made sense. "Oh. A lot's changed since then."

"I'm a bit time displaced, too," Kaylee continued.

"Yeah? When are you from, then?" Pete was poking at the CD player in confusion.

"500 years in the future."

Pete looked up at her and blinked. Then his eyes slowly traveled up and down as he looked her over.

"Now that's what I call the 'comin' thing'."

"Excuse me?" Kaylee asked, narrowing her eyes a bit.
