This is the story of my ENTIRE LIFE.

Guess what. There's a word for this.

"Dacryphilia."

You're welcome.

Not the OP but THANK YOU! Having a name for it is very validating.

OP: Is it considered a fetish even if there's nothing sexual about it?

But thank you, it's really relieving to know there's more of us!

OP, fetishes are actually not inherantly sexual. While it's often used in that sense, a fetish itself is more a general fixation/obsession. You can have completely nonsexual fetishes, though you probably don't want to explain this every time you say it, yeah.

OP: Do you have anything to recommend? I've been thinking of watching Shut Up Flower Boy Band

I am reminded of the secret maker/anon who had a pathological hatred of crying a while back, and it became a whole thing.

Idk.

I think this is actually pretty common. I mean, you can usually tell who the fandom darling is by whoever has the most gratuitous angst fanfics.

Or rape fics, depending on the fandom.

I've done similar things, mostly sitting there and wondering what a character would be like when they cried, and what would drive them to tears.

I don't think it's that weird, OP. I wouldn't worry about it. Vulnerability can be pretty sexy.

That’s ok. You just wanna know that the characters you love feel sad like everyone does sometimes. That’s ok and there’s nothing wrong with it.
