I don't know if this is relevant, but you might want to know that this whole thing has made it to 4chan by now. http://boards.4chan.org/cgl/res/5110461

I am not seeing where that guy was accused of being the rapist, apart from the initials "TC".

Surely saying that there is a rapist named "TC" is not libel against all people named "TC". There was a mass murderer named Anders also...

Is there some specific connection that I didn't see?

Someone had namedropped his username in the thread with Stormy in it (giving no proof or anything, just blind accusation). I deleted it and froze the thread, but apparently it wasn't fast enough.

Also, FTR, people picked up his username and were Replurking out a collection of 'information' compiled which included... information on him muddled in.

So, like Case said, it just wasn't caught fast enough before someone picked it up.

Whoever this whyljrpwhy person is, they're a total douche.

"but while it is sad that an unrelated individual may have been subjected to online harassment that will probably not affect his job or RL activities, it is much sadder that there is a serial rapist fucking young girls up at cons."

Dude got falsely accused of being a serial rapist and spread online. Pretty sure that'll effect his real life.

I'm not sure why the comparison has to be made, honestly.

It's bad that an unrelated individual got swept up in this.
It's bad that there's a serial rapist at cons out there.

... they can both be bad at the same time. Thinking one is bad doesn't negate the other.

Yeah. And you can think serial rape is worse, and still think whyljrpwhy is behaving like a total douche. :/

This. I don't get why some people constantly make things into "either/or" situations.

Please perma-ban whyljrpwhy. This person has caused great harm and shows no remorse for what s/he has done or even understanding that this sort of thing is wrong. I genuinely do not want to be part of a community where such a character is free to express his/her vagrantly false thoughts.

And also, I hope you realize that there is also a reason why people were willing to believe this serial rapist was you -- it was not just people wildly flipping out and starting a witch hunt.

Is he going to lose his job? Is his RL going to be affected by this?

No, YOU get out. Of this planet.

The statistic I've heard is that 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 women have been raped. Mostly they are raped by people they already know: friends, acquaintances, family. People they trusted. So this "how dare you accuse me of being a rapist, I don't act like a rapist" thing? You have to understand: actually yes you do. Actually many guys do.

This statistic is completely false and whyljrpwhy uses it to further his/her misinformed lies.

And I never did anything to him ( ... )

I thought technophile already banned whyljrpwhy. Trouble is, s/he could just post anon, and there's not much technophile can do about that.

Technically, he could stop allowing anonymous comments. But that wouldn't fly very well with the users who don't have a livejournal account.

...They could probably make an account exclusively for commenting here, but I can see why some people would think it's not worth it just for commenting on their secret, or something.

Also, if anonymous comments weren't allowed, the op wouldn't have been able to tell us her story and give us her warning.

So, um, yeah.

I know it's been said in jest before, but I have never seen a better for why I don't want to live on this fucking planet anymore.
