Agreed.

I saw this theory where the movie was originally supposed to reflect more of Carrol's real-life problems (Stuttering, overall social awkwardness, and probably touch on the pedophilia and overall better bonding with children), and while it probably was just tinhatting, it would've been much more entertaining to me.

I think I almost definitely would have enjoyed it more had Burton been allowed to go past PG.

This was my impression of the movie as well.

Then I got my hands on the 2007 version of the script, and in some ways, am sort of glad that they did make it as light as they did. Hatter spending a great deal of time in the Red Queen's dungeon and being beaten bloody really isn't something I wanna watch.

I know what you mean. Everyone's been bitching that it's just SOOOO Burton-y and clearly just him being indulgent again, but he was hired for it; he hadn't even read the stories until Disney called him. So, I mean, I enjoyed it, but it could have been better if it was more Disney or more Burton, but one or the other, not some weird in-between. IMO.

The movie felt like it was gonna go somewhere...but by the time the credits started rolling the movie felt like it went NO WHERE.

I just wish they could have stuck to the original script :/

I liked the movie, but I kinda have to agree with some of the things you said. I'm not really a Tim Burton fan, yet I expected it to be different - darker - to what it actually was.

Well, it's very much possible for something to be "weird" without it being "adult", but I pretty much know what you mean. Could've done a lot more with the weirdness factor.

I couldn't disagree more with the "love-it-or-hate-it" thing, though. I found it to be so-so, nothing more, nothing less. And I couldn't really imagine how anyone could either obsess over it or despise it, but I've been surprised by both attitudes.

There was way too much Disney in this. Had it been just Burton this movie would have been SICK. I would rather have seen the more adult version (even if it meant seeing my little Johnny all bloody).
