Buffy had known she wouldn't stick around. It wasn't her style. Fighting the good fight didn't mean the past was forgotten. Too much history; too much blood. They were never going to be friends, even if they weren't enemies.
When Faith packed up and slipped away one night, she wasn't surprised.
When Faith called in a week later, well that was a surprise.
And the next week. And the next.
Months passed and Buffy realised how much she envied Faith - she was out there. Doing the right thing.
Then the calls stopped.
Buffy was surprised how much that hurt.
