Authors Notes: So what started off as semi-belated-pointless-Valentine’s-Day-fluff, is now very-belated-pointless-Valentine’s-Day-fluff, but then I figure we all need a bit of that sometimes so here you go. With thanks to callieach for the spur of the moment beta *hugs*
Summary: “So you’re telling us that the guy who brought you a bottle of perfume worth three thousand dollars, and wrote you a love message using fish bacteria, didn’t get you anything for Valentine’s Day?”

Valentine’s Day

Cam and Brennan were standing in front of the automatic doors, discussing a case file, when Angela came storming into the lab - strides determined, arms crossed, features set into an unmistakable frown. Sharing a look, they quickly fell into step beside her, one shadowing each of her sides the case file quickly forgotten beneath the pathologists arm.

“Angela, is everything alright?” Brennan’s question was lost beneath the echo of running footsteps.

“Angela! Angela! Come on, at least say something” Jack called, rounding the corner before slowing his pace behind the three women.

“What did he do?” Cam asked instinctively casting a bemused glance at the entomologist.

“He is walking right behind you-" Jack began, harsher than was probably necessary “- and he didn’t buy her anything for Valentine’s Day”

Both of Angela’s companions eyes widened.

“Are you serious?” Brennan asked. Angela’s nod was joined by an overly forceful “yes” from behind them.

“So you’re telling us that the guy who brought you a bottle of perfume worth three thousand dollars, and wrote you a love message using fish bacteria, didn’t get you anything for Valentine’s Day?” Angela’s look confirmed that was the case. “Wow.” Cam said.

“Not even a card?” Brennan asked, her eyes growing even wider. This time her reply came in the form of an eye roll that none of the three women could see.

As they continued, Jack lost his patience with the silence. "She shrugged, okay?" he began to their backs. "I asked her, last weekend, if she wanted to do anything and she shrugged." He waved his arms in exasperation.

“Since when does a shrug mean ‘no’, Dr Hodgins?”

He dropped his arms in defeat.

“Considering all of the women you’ve dated-” Brennan ignored her best friend’s glare “-I thought you would have realised by now that all women love to receive something on Valentine’s Day. Angela especially, don’t you remember what she was like that year Brad-”

“-Brett.”

“Brett had those chocolates delivered here?”

Now it was Jack’s turn to glare at the anthropologist.

“Valentine’s day is just a crock ok?” Jack argued as they all headed in the direction of Angela’s office “A consumerist holiday invented by chocolate factories, card wholesalers and florists to make people spend way too much money on stuff that never lasts. Not to mention, get into pointless little arguments...” He half-expected Angela to say something to that but she didn’t, instead as they finally reached her office she busied herself with taking off her coat, and hanging up her purse before finally switching on the lights. Immediately all three women stopped dead in there tracks, mouths slightly agape, eyes sweeping the room.

“...But its worth it when the woman you love realises you didn’t really not get her anything.” The smirk in Jack’s voice was unmistakable, and all three women stood there, admiring the bouquets of white roses that covered every possible surface within the room long after he’d walked away.

The End
