Title: "Time Bomb" (The Epilogue)
Author: callieach
Fandoms: Doctor Who, Torchwood
Characters: Donna, The Doctor, Sylvia, Wilfred
Rating: PG-13
Words: 716
Disclaimer: If I owned either of these series, I would be not only British, but also not still-heartbroken over season finales.
Author's Notes: I've been working on this since "Journey's End" but it just kept getting bigger and more demanding. Especially the third part, which I could never seem to finish, which is why I split this part off into it's own little section. Also, because it likely messes with general Doctor Who canon in a way that the rest of the story doesn't. Feedback of any sort would be wonderful.
Summary: Donna's forgetting and remembering things she shouldn't. (Includes spoilers for the end of 4x13 - "Journey's End" and unverified speculation for season 3 of TW.)

Part One: An Interupted Vacation
Part Two: Ticking
Part Three: The Shocking Save

Later, sitting around a table with three people she cares most about in the world, Donna couldn’t be happier. She loves the way the Doctor keeps making jokes that goes over her family’s heads; she loves the way her grandfather hangs on to the Doctor’s every word, completely fascinated; she even loves the way her mother keeps making that face like she regrets letting Donna go on her Welsh vacation to being with, let alone going so far as to make tea for an alien.

When the tea is gone and Sylvia announces she’s going to bed, the Doctor suggests he and Donna strike off. First, she drags him into the living room for a quiet conversation, before she goes back to the kitchen with her grandfather.

“You know, gramps, you could come with us if you wanted.”

Wilfred gives her a smile and idly pats her hand. “I’m getting too old to start with space-time adventures now.” He turns to the Doctor. “I would, err, love to look inside your ship, Doctor, if I may.”

“C’mon, then,” is the cheerful reply, given by the Doctor with a jerk of his head. He leads the trio to the door, then back across the still-dark street to his blue police box. He makes a big show of snapping his fingers so the doors open themselves, then gestures the Nobles in ahead of him.

The Doctor gives Wilfred a quick tour, babbling non-stop about the Time Lord technology and how his chameleon circuit’s broken but he doesn’t really want to fix it because he’s grown fairly attached to being so consistently classy.

Donna stands off to the side throughout the tour, still just as happy as before. When the men are done, they congregate on the ramp way leading to the door of the TARDIS. Donna gives her grandfather another tight squeeze. “I promise I’ll be back soon with lots of new adventures to tell you about,” she tells him, and though she’s laughing, she can’t help but shoot the Doctor a dirty look. There’s still a part of her - the part that holds a grudge and gets frustrated when the shoe store is out of the cute style in her size - that’s mad at him for giving up on her so easily. She’s still not sure what she thinks of the end result they’ve yet to discuss.

“I look forward to it,” Wilfred replies, before turning to the Doctor again. “This is a happier goodbye than our last.”

“Infinitely.”

“I’ll still keep a watch out for you, though.”

“Thank you.” The Doctor nods in farewell, and the old man repeats the gesture before he turns to leave. Donna gives a wave as she shuts the door behind him, then she dashes over to the controls, eager to give him the dematerialization act she knows he’s anticipating. She programmes coordinates to somewhere, anywhere - it doesn’t matter, really, does it?

Once that’s done, she meets the Doctor on the other side of the console and says, “Asth’ka’s only got two moons. There’s actually a pretty funny story about a guy who claimed there were three, but really he was just getting drunk every night down by the pig lake and seeing reflections. The planet nutter, he was.”

Immediately, the Doctor’s wearing a very grim expression. “How did you know that?”

“Because you did.”

“Why aren’t you burning up? You shouldn’t be able to know this anymore.”

At this, Donna takes the Doctor’s hand and places it over her left breast. She chuckles at his confused expression and tells him to feel.

She breaks into a fit of laughter when he puts his other hand on top of her other breast.

“You’ve got two heartbeats, Donna Noble,” he says simply.

“Well that’s ‘coz I’ve got two hearts, Doctor.”

He finally has the presence of mind to remove his hands from her chest, so he drops them to his side. “But that’s -“

“Improbable to the point of being impossible,” she finishes for him, turning to work the controls of the TARDIS. “Oh, yes, I know.”

The Doctor is standing still, just watching her with an expression somewhere between perplexed and ecstatic. “But that means you’re a -“

Donna looks up, grinning, to finish his sentence again. "Time Lady.”
