The Roof, Saturday afternoon

Walter had a thermos of tea, a bag of sandwiches, and a cigarette. Thanks to his semi-insane metabolism, he hadn't even had a brushing acquaintance with a hangovr; he couldn't complain at all. Eventually, he'd see Cally, if she remembered the night before. Then there would be jumping off the roof

Pippi flounced up to the roof, juggling some hollow plastic balls.

Walter heard the telltale sounds of flouncing and turned to greet Pippi. "Hey. Nice balls. "

"Thank you! They're light and airy"

[walter_n_wires]

"I prefer them with a bit of weight," Walter said, then hastily added, "For juggling!"

[strongestgirl]

There's a joke to be made here about juggling and balls and Englishmen and teabags... But I don't feel up to making it just now.

"Right..." Pippi said. "I agree... With the juggling."

[walter_n_wires]

It practically makes itself.

"How's Pip?"

[strongestgirl]

Indeed

"A little surly since some strange and mystic power decided to fill his room with these." she answered holding up one of the plastic balls. "But certainly seems to be on the mend."

[walter_n_wires]

"That's good. Maybe we'll be able to get our trip in before school starts again. Tell Pip I said hello from a distance, since I don't want to end up feeling like him."

[strongestgirl]

"I will, and you better not!"

[walter_n_wires]

"I will not. I am in perfect operating order, thank you."

"Glad to hear it... So..."

She peeked over the side of the ledge.

[walter_n_wires]

"So... there was some talk of crazy people who like to jump off the roof for fun."

[strongestgirl]

"You're kidding me? Who are these crazy people? And why would they do such a thing?"

[walter_n_wires]

"I heard that one of them was a devastatingly handsome young Englishman, and that there was a pretty red-headed pirate as well. Some rumor of an Argentine spy, but that's just too farfetched."

[strongestgirl]

"Where do people come up with that stuff anyway?"

[walter_n_wires]

"Fevered imaginations from people who need more excitement in their lives."
