Salle, 3rd Period - Lunch

Oct 05, 2006 09:34

Conner had spent a couple of hours the night before putting together a workout-music playlist that most decidedly did not consist of 80's training-montage songs. A lot of the stuff on it would probably cause people to quirk an eyebrow at him and go, "Why exactly do you think that's a good workout song?" What it came down to in the end was that he ( Read more... )

Setsuna was going to be sending all weekend away from swords and fighting and training and all that wonderful stuff she was usually surrounded by when she went away. So she made sure that she had some time with Yuunagi before she left, coming down to the salle during third period before war theory.

The pop music had her kind of frozen at the door as she entered, for a moment. Who the hell was bastardizing her sacred training ground with that crap?

Conner paused at the peak of an upward swing, blissfully unaware of the gross blasphemy he was committing. "Hey, Sakurazaki!"

Setsuna blinked, and, with a shake of her head, propelled herself into motion toward the weapon's locker. "Hey, Conner." Her eyes danced over his sword, tried to avoid seeking out the source of the...music, for lack of a better term. "I'm not, uh,interupting anything, am I?"

That was when Conner realized that for the love of God, he'd been working out to the sounds of the A-Teens, and his face turned as red as his shirt. "No, no, not at all," he said quickly and too loudly, in a futile attempt to drown out the incriminating music. "Just practicing, that's all! It's a public space, right?"

Nervous chuckling. Lots of it. No flailing, though, luckily; flailing with a sword in hand == bad.

Setsuna nodded, with a slight smirk. It was a nice change of pace to not be the one turning red and nearly flailing. "It is," she said, tactfully leaving out the adendum that, because of it, he might want to turn that shit down. She opened the weapons locker, drew out both her swords, taking a moment to decide whether to train with Daisuke or Yuunagi today.

Yuunagi won out, hands down. She placed poor Daisuke back in the locker. He was so neglected...

As it happened, Conner was edging surreptitiously toward the corner, reaching out a hand to try and turn down the volume on the laptop.

Doing this blind was a bad idea, though; even though he did manage to turn the volume down a couple of notches, he also managed to skip ahead to the Jessica Simpson portion of the playlist.

Wow, any more blushing and he'd suffer total blood loss to all his other extremities. "Wow, uh, how did this stuff get onto my computer?"

Setsuna's attempts not to smirk too much had made it rather difficult for her to set a good strong starting stance. She bit her lip, letting one slide by as she looked over at Conner. "Damn ninjas."

Conner finally managed to get his fingers to cooperate enough to find the volume control on his taskbar and slide it all the way down. "I'd blame my brother but he's not here." He gulped. "Yet."

"Yet?" Setsuna asked, breathing a deep sigh of relief for the blessed quiet. She could actually hear the swishing of her blade through the air as she swung it through several preemptive arcs. She loved that sound. "Is he coming to visit, then?"

"He's supposed to be coming in with Mom and Dad for Parents' Weekend, yeah." Conner sounded like someone resigned to the inevitability of doom. "As long as he never meets Carmela's brother I think we might escape with minimal damage."

He reversed his grip on the sword and tried a backhand strike. "Got anybody coming in that weekend?"

Sakurazaki's blade stopped halfway through an arch, dropping down to her side. She blinked, as if the thought never occured to her. Because, mostly, it hadn't.

"I...I'm not sure," she said. "I mean, I don't have any parents, but it does make me wonder if they've contacted my guardians about it..."

Would they have contacted the Shinmei Ryuu? Or perhaps Elder Konoe, because he was financing her education. And if Elder Konoe came, then maybe...

Setsuna's eyes widened. Ojou-sama.

That stunned thing she did at the door? Yeah, totally doing it again now.

And once again Conner proved his unerring instinct for putting his foot in his mouth. Yeah, that god of keeping yourself from looking like an idiot, the one he and Blair had talked about in World Religions yesterday? That was starting to sound like a really good idea, and Conner was completely prepared to start the cult all by his own damn self.

"Sorry," he said lamely. "I didn't mean to bring up a sore subject or anything . . . "

[OOC: Class, woe! No prob. :)]

"Oh!" Setsuna shook her head, breaking out of her reverie, and offered Conner a smile. "Oh, no, it's not a sore subject. I just didn't really think about the whole thing. Makes me kind of wonder if maybe they'll come..."

Though she still wasn't sure if she wanted them to.

"I'd rather mine didn't," Conner said plaintively. "Well, my parents not so much, but Eric?"

He cringed. "It's not that I don't love my brother. He's just . . . a handful."

[OOC: Ooo. *jealouses kinda* Gah, I didn't get a notification for this.]

Her head tilted slightly. "What makes him so bad?" If he was coming, she figured she'd best know now.

Conner smiled ruefully. "He's goofy, a spaz, and has way too much energy. That kind of makes him lovable, most of the time, except that he has this tendency to break things . . ."
