Fifth Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

Aug 31, 2006 18:33

Bel was busy setting up the fifth floor common room. He pushed the couches and chairs to the walls to clear the center of the room, then arranged some pallets he'd found and shimmered upstairs to create a makeshift runway. He lined the edges with white christmas tree lights. Music, big flashlight to serve as a spotlight, yeah, he was set ( Read more... )

Lyra walked into the common room, toweling her hair dry. She'd been caught in a momentary downpour on the way back from town. She stopped in her tracks when she saw the chaos ensuing.

"What's going on?"

Dean looked over to Lyra, smiling. "Hey, Lyra! Trying to figure it out, myself."

"Hullo, Dean." Lyra moved further into the room, trying not to trip over the christmas lights. "Huh. Those are brilliant; they're so little."

She looked over at the architect of the madness. "I wonder who that is."

"That's Bel, apparently. My big brother said he's a demon. Or part demon. Or something. Which I assume means evil-devil-thing and not someone's-soul-thing," Dean said with a shrug.

"A demon?" Her eyes widened. "But I read they're all evil and mean, I wonder how he got to be here."

"Walter said he was reformed or something?" He looked as puzzled as Lyra. "I don't even know. And apparently this is going to be some kind of revenge-related fashion show. Which sounds like something I need to see."

Lyra looked dubious. "Well, it sounds interesting, at least."

She looked for the arm of a couch or something to sit on.

"Oh! I was thinking. How do feel about curtaining off a corner of the room? That way we don't have to run to the loo all the time." She looked up at Dean, trying to gauge his reaction.

"Sounds like a plan," he said, definitely relieved. "I guess it's not that big a deal to do it in the bathroom, but it's nice to have some privacy." And that sounded wrong, but too late now.

Lyra smiled, oblivious to any entendre, double or otherwise.

"Good. I heard some of the other new students are hanging them. I, uh, hoped you wouldn't be offended."

"Definitely not, no. I'm not, uh. Used to the living situation, so. It's good." He smiled shakily, a little embarrassed just talking about it.

"So I saw Evie at the Perk today! She said she was waiting for you and wondered if I wanted to stay. I couldn't, had other stuff to buy, but I hope I didn't miss anything good?"

"Just me explaining my entire life's story in a thread that still omg going on." Lyra laughed self consciously. "So, only the most interesting conversation in the world."

"Hey, don't laugh! It probably actually is. And now I'm kinda mad I missed it. I've been meaning to ask you to explain the whole world-jumping thing, but I guess you're all talked out about it, now," he said genuinely. "Plus, trying to recap the high points of your entire existence while simultaneously watching an impromptu fashion show probably doesn't work very well."

"I'll tell you about it some time." Lyra looked up as the door creaked open.

"Ooh, shh. I think it's starting."
