Conner wandered over after moving his things into Puffin and attempting to apologize to Marie.

"Hey, guys."

"Hey, Conner. You look down. Have one of Daisy's cupcakes."

No, there was no dirty there.

Probably.

"Hi, Parker. It has not been my best last twenty-four hours," Conner told her as he reached for a cupcake.

Not that he was thinking of it in a dirty way or anything.

Yet.

"I'm sorry to hear that. What happened, did your team lose the World Cup?"

"Well, the team I was rooting for won. But I got ice cream dumped on my head last night and got chewed out by Willow, and made Marie feel really bad."

Parker swallowed a bite of cupcake, and narrowed her eyes. "McKnight. What did you *do*?" Then she blinked. And palmed her face. "Wait. Let me rephrase that."

"Missed radio, did you?" Conner asked sheepishly. "I asked Marie out on a date yesterday. I figured she knew about me and Anders, but she didn't. And she didn't take it too well when I told her about it, and Willow came after me."

"Conner, Conner, Conner...." Parker shook her head, and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "And I thought Daisy had problems. Willow was totally and completely justified. You're lucky you're still walking."

Conner sighed. "Yeah, I heard it from him last night too," he said, chucking a thumb in Anders's direction. "Willow knows how to play dirty, I swear. Threatening to hack into my school records and spell my name wrong on all of them. And I feel really horrible about upsetting Marie like that."

"Good for her." They might have irritated each other at first meeting, but Parker had to admit she'd never heard anything about Willow that didn't make her respect her. "So. Next time, you'll admit previous entanglements *before* asking someone out. No more lecture required." She glared over at Anders. "Him, I need to talk to again."

"No more lecture," Conner agreed. "It's just I get such mixed messages from the girls at this school, you know? Most of them think it's hot, so I kind of figured . . ."

"If you'd dated someone who'd said that, it would've been fine. But Marie's a little shyer, and a little more traditional. And even the girls who think it's 'hot'-- they'd want to know up front that they've got, if not competition? At least someone else in the picture." Parker shook her head. "Never assume what works for some works for all, Conner. *I* might think it's kind of hot? But I'd kill my boyfriend a couple times over if he did anything behind my back."

Conner grinned sheepishly at her. "I thought you said no more lecture."

"That was an explanation. And... okay, a little bit of a lecture." Parker rolled her eyes. "I'll resist temptation for the rest of the evening. How goes the rest of your weekend, that didn't have banana split on it?"

Conner grinned. "Not too bad, actually, aside from Pip giving me grief about rooting for Italy today. The party was great the other day, by the way."

"Who won the Cup, anyway? And thanks-- I was just glad so many people showed up, and in costume." She grinned. "I don't think I recognized yours."
