Parker came back in after supper, and followed the music upstairs. She leaned on the doorway, watching Dawn dance around for a second, biting her lip before she had to join in.

I will not be alone without you,
I can stand on my own without you--

Parker applauded, grinning. "Julie Andrews is worried, somewhere."

"She should be, she's got those nodes," Dawn nodded solemnly, then broke into giggles. "Parker, right?"

"Right. Dawn? I saw you around during stuff over the weekend, but I was a little out of it." Parker came into the room and appopriated a corner of the couch, then raised an eyebrow at the movie. "Why couldn't they quit while they were ahead? This is the best part."

"And then it goes to that stupid ending. She tells him off, and it's beautiful, and then she fetches his slippers like he's the family dog?" Dawn glared at the movie.

"Should've thrown them at him, like she did before." Parker made a face. "The 1900's play is more enlightened than the musical, how sad is that?" She looked grumpy for a second. "Although the music is great. Higgins can't sing worth a damn, though."

"Talking his way through the whole thing," she grumped, "and he did the same thing with The Music Man."

"Preston was a million times better," Parker agreed. "Although at least Marni Nixon didn't have to sing for Marian in that one." She paused. "It's possible I've seen too many old movies."

"Maybe? Although my favorite Preston movie has to be Victor, Victoria." She struck a pose and tried to pretend she was Julie Andrews. "Oh, won't you, play me that jazz hot baybee..."

"And don't let it evvver end," Parker sang, hitting the low notes. "God, I love her clothes in that movie."

"Especially the black beaded one with the slit up the side." Parker briefly considered looking for one like that online. "And thank god they didn't try to make James Garner sing. That would've been a disaster."

She threw another pillow at the screen, as Eliza came walking down the street. "Turn around! Go back! Marry Freddy, even if he's an idiot!"

"In the play she does, you know. She owns and runs a flower shop, taking care of Freddy."

"Which could be better, but at least it's not Higgins." Parker sighed. "I don't think I've ever dated anyone as dumb as Freddy, though. Why does she have to marry anyone? Stupid conventional musical movie endings of the sixties."

"Maybe she wanted to be married?"
