"I think I'd be boggling more about how I managed it," Jaye answers, thinking about it. "Somehow I think Jack'll survive. Not so sure about the toaster."
"Yeah, the toaster came as a shock to me, too," she says. "And I'm not saying Jack's heartless or anything. Far from it. It's just... beck and calling for fun and all that? I just can't think of a point where actual heartbreak comes in there, if that makes any sense? And it's totally not a slam."
"It's what he knows," Sam said, playing a little with the cover of the book she'd been reading. "And I know it's not a slam--at least he's honest about what he wants, right? So you know what you're getting into."
"Exactly," she says. "Guys usually suck about that kind of thing. It's 'okay, we're cute together, let's see where this goes' and then as soon as it goes somewhere, everything changes. So yeah. Knowing where you stand from the get-go? Huge plus."
"Not really," she shrugs, not that it's obvious in her current position. "Alec and I were talking about Caritas sometime this weekend, but I don't know if that's today, and tomorrow's girlkissy-in-exchange-for-boykissy, so... not sure. Maybe just lazing around."
She pauses. "Maybe I'll move sometime today. Haven't decided. You?"
"Hey."

"I'm, uh, going out for coffee or pastry or something with Jack later, I think."

She picks her head up a little to look at Sam and asks, "Date or not-date?"
