Sam threw her towel and water bottle into a corner, waved to the room in general, then went over to the treadmill and set it for a light jog, so she could warm up before working out. Looked like the heavy bag was in use then anyway.

Aeryn finally steps away from the bag, heading to one of the machines for a cool-down. "Hi," she says, getting to work adjusting the weight.

"Hey," Sam said, starting to pick up the speed. It was good to see a familiar face. "Been here long?"

"Let me put it this way: it was nearly empty when I got here," she answers.

Sam looked around the room at all the people and chuckled. "No place around here seems to stay empty for long these days. All these new people."

"I don't remember the gym being so busy with the last group of new students," Aeryn says. "This may not be a bad thing."

"Not if it means they can hold their own, no," Sam agreed.

"It's what I'm hoping," she admits. "It should probably worry me that I'm watching to see who can actually be of use the next time something attacks us."

"Maybe?" Sam shrugged, "but I'm glad that someone who knows something about tactics is keeping an eye out for stuff like that."

She wasn't ready to think about the loss of some truly talented fighters with Angel, Anakin, and Callisto graduating. Even Logan had been able to hold his own.

Aeryn has been thinking about that. A lot.

"Has to be done," she shrugs. "I'll probably do it forever. Thank you, Fandom."

"Give a yell if you need a second opinion," she hesitated, then said, "It's not so bad to be on your guard, Aeryn, but you should know that not everywhere on Earth is like Fandom. There are places that aren't always under attack or preparing for an attack. Um, just stay out of Colorado."

"I know," she says. "I know that things here don't exactly reflect the rest of the world. It'll be an adjustment when I get there, but... Habit."

"Yeah. Habit."

"And then it will be me placing calls to Angel and seeing if he needs help with anything," she says, almost casually. Because she can see it happening.

"Just don't e-mail him," Sam smiled slightly, "or he might not get the message until too late."

"He'll be lucky to have you there, you know."

"I don't use E-mail unless I have to anyway," she says.

"And he knows that already."
