Face it: only having two classes, spaced out on different days of the week, wasn't exactly enough to keep a fourteen-year-old occupied. Sooner or later, April had time on her hands and decided she should explore.

Eventually she discovered the common room, and the wondrous amount of cooking supplies that lay within, and her squeals of delight

Blue stomped into the common room carrying a scepter and not looking too happy about it. "Where's Thorin?!"

Here, Blue. He was here.

"Umm, not me?" April was just trying to do her baking thing, okay. "Is that a person? Holy Bridget Bishop, that's a pretty scepter. Cane. What is it exactly?"

...So sometimes April used historical figures' names as exclamations.

"I don't know, but it was in my sock drawer," Blue said. "You know. Where I want to put my socks."

"Whoa. Spooky," April said with full sincerity. "Ooh, do you think someone left it for you to find because it's a clue to some kind of mystery you need to solve?"

Probably not that, no.

[yogurtvore]

"No," Blue sighed, "it's just a byproduct of having a roommate who's dwarvish royalty or whatever." Not 'or whatever,' that was just what he was.

"Ohhh." Well, that was disappointing. Mysteries were fun.

April cocked her head. "Is it a gift?"

[yogurtvore]

"I don't know yet," Blue said, scowling at the scepter like it had wronged her. "He could just be storing it there. Oh. Right. Hi, I'm Blue."

"Like the color? I'm April! Like the month." It was so fun to be named after things!

"If he just put it there for storage, you should get to fill his bed with socks," she advised. "Fair's fair."

"That would be fair," Blue said thoughtfully. She pointed the scepter at April. "Smart thinking."

"Ooh, I hope that doesn't put a curse on me."

Okay, April was having too much fun with this scepter thing.

"Now you have me wondering if I'm taking up too much space in my room," she mused out loud. "I did bring a lot of stuff. But that's only because I need clothes for all types of weather here, and textbooks and shoes and stuff for activities. But at least I didn't put anything in my roommate's dresser. I think."

Oh no, what if Isabela was sitting around somewhere thinking about how inconsiderate she was?

"No, I don't think he can do magic." Although sometimes when she came back and the furniture had more filigree on it she did wonder... "And if you're worried about it you're already way ahead, I think."

"You never know with scepters," April shared seriously. "Or mysterious gold coins you find in the woods. Anything shiny with no practical purpose, really."

"You just described half of my dorm room," Blue sighed.

[cuzfriendship]

"Hopefully none of it is cursed?" April said hopefully. "There should really be a place where you can get it appraised just to be sure."

Or there was always the option to communicate with her roommate, but what kind of person thought of that first?

"I'll just ask him. He's not really big on deception." Oh, Thorin. "So what were you up to?"

Oh, right. Her own life! "I'm having a baking spree," April declared proudly. "You want a cupcake? They're pretty good. But the icing is a mess," she warned.
