"So nothing we say today counts, right?" she asked carefully. "Not like I have so many secrets from you, but I need to know nothing's gonna haunt me."

"That depends on what you might say. And now I'm really curious," Johnny said with a grin.

"Ugh,it's all boring stuff like how having a boyfriend scares me?" Alana checked, crinkling her nose. "Or mean stuff, like how you should throw out that blue shirt you like 'cause it's basically a rag?"

"Hey, I already told the new girl over there that I'm afraid I'm going to screw things up, so you're safe there," Johnny said. "And that's why I like that shirt. I tell myself it's part of the charm."

[This era of Johnny's life did feature questionable clothing choices, so it's fair. :D]

"Not really," Alana said. "It's soft, but I bet you could get a new soft shirt."

She smiled. 'And hey, if we're both equally scared it's cool."

"It's not just the softness. It's the total experience of the shirt. Which sounds like complete BS, but I believe it completely even though I don't know what it means," Johnny declared. "And you're right. It is cool. Go us, we're awesome."

Alana laughed. "I love that you can say that when we all seem to be telling the truth," she said. "You don't just say you're awesome to keep from having to deal with insecurity."

"It's only partially that. But I also know it's true. I just have to look at my track record," Johnny said. "Superhero. Popular with the ladies. Dating the hottest girl in school. And confident enough to start that last sentence and know it would work out for me."

"See, and I liked that sentence a lot," Alana said. "Especially since I'm dating the -- literally -- hottest guy in school, and he hasn't noticed Isabelle's got a perfect body and Cosette's eyes make her look looks like some crazy doll, in a really good way."

"Cosette is really cute. And Isabelle is ridiculous. But I've seen you naked and I've been impressed every time," Johnny said with zero shame.

"What, so if you saw Isabelle naked you might change your mind?" Alana asked, and then grinned. "Don't answer that. I'm just gonna take the compliment and enjoy it."

"And you've earned it," Johnny said. "But for what it's worth, I'm pretty confident you would still win."

"Thanks, and keep saying things like that," Alana instructed. "I know I get shy about it sometimes, but I'm actually a lot more insecure than I act. I figure it's probably my massive issues with my family."

"Hello, Alana." Hanna waved hello, smile widening. "Have some pizza. It does not cause you to tell the truth. That's just unavoidable."

Alana smiled back at Hanna and reached for some pizza. "Thanks. I figure the truth thing's probably going to go away in a day or so, but it's really freaking annoying while it lasts."
