The deck, Monday afternoon

Jun 23, 2014 13:58

There was little in this world (or her own) that Raven enjoyed more than a proper lazy summer vacation day, and she intended to make full use of the break from workshops. It'd been awhile since she'd taken advantage of the dorm's deck, but she was out in force, this afternoon, sporting a cute little blue strapless suit and a pair of actual, for ( Read more... )

Will had gone for a long, long run around the island and had spent the last little while cooling down and stretching. Now, coming back to the dorms, he detoured towards the deck.

"You look like you're enjoying the weather," he said by way of greeting. "Though, I'd probably avoid the books if I were in your shoes but still."

He smiled easily.

Raven smiled back. "I'm a little old fashioned," she said. "I still like books as much as television."

And radio as much as both.

"This one wasn't my pick, though. My brother won't shut up about it until I read it."

"I like books too but I don't tend to read them outside," he explained. "I like to run or swim or something else when I'm outside. Save the reading for when I'm inside. Seems like an indoor activity to me."

"It's an every where activity," Raven said firmly. "Running and swimming are great, but sometimes I just want to lie around in the sun."

"That's an easy way to get a sunburn," Will quipped, taking a seat and stretching out. "And then you're gonna be red and sore and lying around in the sun. That's when I'd move inside and read books."

He was just teasing.

"So you don't burn when you go running?" Raven teased back. "You outrun the sun?"

"Well, I am pretty fast..." Will shrugged. "You know, I haven't ever gotten sunburned before. I don't even know if I can. And it's not something I wanna try either because ow. It probably hurts worse than it looks."

"I wouldn't know," Raven said with a shrug. "I've never had a sunburn, either." Or a tan, for that matter, not without mimicking one. Her scales occasionally changed color, but she wasn't 100% sure that was from the sun.

"Probably something we should both avoid," Will told her, nodding. "From what I've heard, it just makes people miserable and cranky. I get enough of that without having to look like a lobster."

"It definitely doesn't look like much fun," Raven agreed. "Though some people end up miserable and cranky if they don't get enough sun, either."

"Guess that's why they make super powerful sunscreen and big, straw hats," he quipped, stretching out his legs. "What's so bad about this book you're reading?"

It was a totally great segue.

"It's depressing," Raven said. "And I'm pretty sure the teenage girl in the first chapter only exists for the creepy main character to lust after and have an epiphany."

"D'you have to read it?" Will wondered, glancing at the book. "Is there gonna be a test or something?"

"Not a test," Raven said. "Just an older brother. He wants to make sure I keep up with the fifties while I'm in the 21st century."

"Wow, the fifties?" Will asked, blinking and sounding surprised. "That's the time you're from? Must have been a culture shock when you got here."

"A little," Raven said. It was easy to downplay, now that she'd been here for so long. "Mostly, I was disappointed by the lack of moon colonies. Smart phones are pretty nifty, though."
